Complete with 4pp publisher's catalogue bound in at end. Frazer's masterwork first appeared in two volumes in 1890, with a second edition in three volumes in 1900. This is the first appearance of the abridged edition. 'While the bulk of the book has been greatly reduced, I have endeavoured to to retain its leading principles, together with an amount of evidence sufficient to illustrate them clearly' (Author's Preface).
