First edition thus of this excellent sample catalogue filled with dyed silk thread samples including such Edwardian colour names as Desdoux Aloes Salambo Eclipse Champignon Glycine Pistache Oseille Cuite Myrthe and Matelot. The National Silk Dyeing Company began life as the Auger & Simon Silk Dyeing Works which was moved to Paterson in 1884 and grew quickly during the Victorian era but in 1908 Charles Auger chose to merge operations with five other Paterson NJ dye works forming the National Silk Dyeing Company. Lustrous textured thick white endpapers. Issued by the London branch of the pioneering art publishing house of Friedrich Bruckmann Frederick Bruckmann 1814-1898. The work contains 15 examples of clothing styles from various traditional ethnic and national fashions and clothing styles from around the world. Each style is exemplified by an original albumen photograph mounted on heavy stock paper accompanied by 1-2 pages of text which is decorated with large initials and engraved head and tailpieces. The regions shown are Alsace Lorraine Suabia Austria Denmark Bohemia Poland Russia Bulgaria Italy Spain Egypt Turkey Syria and China.<br /> <br /> Binding with only the most minor rubbing to corners. A few minor scratches on the back cover. Book block tight. Interior with minor to light sporadic foxing. Blind stamp on the front free endpaper. Period inscription in ink dated to 1885 preceding the title page. Light age toning to the edges of a few pages. Interior overall quite clean especially the photographs. Benjamin Clothes were famed during the opening two decades of the 20th Century for emphasizing their cosmopolitan styling and that they were wholly manufactured and tailored in New York of the highest quality. The plates show well-dressed Benjamin men on the steps of The Met next to the Franz Sigel Statue on Riverside Drive in front of their Brass Era automobile at The Abbey on Lafayette and more. This copy was printed for the Dege & Milner department store in downtown Tacoma which was operated from 1901-1915 by James H. Dege and his partner William Milner before Dege opened the James H. Blue Wrangler "No Fault" denim jacket size 36. With name "Chan" and zodiac sign - "Pisces" embroidered in yellow above each breast pocket. "Metronettes" and "Md." enbroided in matching color to back of the jacket above and below a period Honda motorcycle patch. Generally fine condition. unknown
