Indipendentemente dal numero di ghiacciai che un glaciologo può aver calcato, la sensazione è sempre vivida: lo scricchiolio quando la fragile crosta della superficie si frantuma sotto i piedi, la sensazione ipnotizzante di camminare su un blocco di ghiaccio mobile. Il senso di mistero e di pericolo non si affievoliscono mai. Ma le calotte polari e i ghiacciai che coprono circa un decimo della superficie terrestre sono fortemente a rischio. This work, which deserves wider recognition, is arguably one of the best of the pre-War travellers' guides to its subject. Each individual location is placed in its architectural and clerical context in a readable manner while the glossary is charmingly illustrated and surprisingly compendious. The 10 full-page illustrations of key architectural features act as a valuable ready reference, a precursor of the achievements of Pevsner and his school yet to come.

Legatura quasi assente. All'interno le pagine si presentano in ottime condizioni con rare fioriture. In 4. Dim. 31x20,5 cm. Pp. da 647 a 688. Interesting extract of 1890 circa from Enciclopedia delle arti e industrie edited by Utet about sea rescue written by Vittorio Baggi. The part relating topography begins from pag. 647 and it is made uop of 42 pages. Inside different illustrations showing different instruments. In very good conditions. Cover is missing. Binding is almost missing. Inside pages are in very good conditions with occasional foxings. In 4. Dim. 29x19,5 cm. Pp. from 647 to 688.

In 8° (21x12 cm); 2 tomi in un volume: VII, (1), 116 pp. e 167, (1) pp. e 15 c. di tav. fuori testo più volte ripiegate (in questo esemplare le 15 tavole sono tutte poste alla fine del volume ma solitamente se ne trovano 7 alla fine del primo volume e 8 alla fine del secondo). Bella legatura coeva in mezza pelle chiara con piatti foderati con carta marmorizzata (a uno dei piatti manca la carta marmorizzata). Dorso con titolo e ricco fregio in oro. Terza edizione migliorata e corretta rispetto alla prima di questo trattato di topografia e geodesia teoretica. Gaspare Vinci, napoletano, professore di topografia in varie scuole militari, architetto e ingegnere, disegnatore e topografo fu una delle figure più eclettiche e rappresentative della schiera di coloro che tra la fine del XVII e l'inzio del XIX secolo gravitò all'interno delle istituzioni topografiche napoletane. Fu primo docente di Topografia nella scuola politecnica napoletana. Antica firma di appartenenza al margine basso del frontespizio. Alla fine del volume sono aggiunte due carte con fitti appunti relativi all'opera chiosati da mano ottocentesca. Questa terza edizione risulta assai rara (nessun esemplare censito in ICCU). Molto belle le grandi tavole più volte ripiegate. L'opera si presenta all'interno in buone-ottime condizioni di conservazione.
Un volume di 317 pagine, brossura editoriale illustrata. Dimensioni: 17x24 cm. Ottime condizioni. Illustrazioni e mappe catastali in b/n e a colori nel testo.
