The engravings, produced by Rook & Co of London, are dated variously between 1849 and 1864. VERY SCARCE, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION.

With the small trade ticket of H.J. Ryman of Oxford Street on front inner wrapper. EXTREMELY SCARCE IN THIS CONDITION.
2 leaves, sm. 8vo., from Bowen's 'Britannia Depicta', conjoined to form an overall sheet of 23.5cms x 18.5cms (9.25ins x 7.25ins), and containing a charming engraved strip-map of the road from Dartmouth (Devonshire) to Minehead (Somersetshire) in six sections with associated descriptive letter-press including arms of Dartmouth and Tiverton in cartouches, THE WHOLE FINELY COLOURED BY HAND, and eminently suitable for framing and display. Emanuel Bowen's 'Britannia Depicta or Ogilby Improv'd' first appeared in 1720 with Ogilby's strip-maps reduced to half the original scale. The work was immensely popular and was reissued many time as late as 1759. The road passes from Dartmouth through Newton Bushel, Exeter, Silverton, Tiverton, Bampton, Berry and Embercum to Minehead.
