"In offering this book to the public I have endeavoured to expose some of the means and methods used by a secret world one might almost say an underworld to penetrate dominate and destroy not only the so-called upper classes but the also the better portion of all classes". Lady Queenborough then devotes over 700 pages to a study close in some cases fleeting in others of the webs of influence whereby secret societies peopled by hierarchies of priests or adepts the theocrasies of the title control the world. These are the Cabalists and unsurprisingly the Jews lie behind many of their machinations. One cannot help but admire Queenborough's energy it is certainly an encyclopaedic gallop through the world of the occult and her honesty she begins by stating that "this book makes no claim to literary merit". However she and many of her friends and collaborators were weapons-grade fruitcakes with a sulphurous whiff about them. And a want of irony as evidenced by Lady Queenborough's observation on p.25 that "many people are duped by charlatans". Indeed. Abbeville (France): Imprimerie F. Paillart n.d. [1933] unknown

The album begins with a trip to Washington D.C. with views of the Capitol building and the Washington Monument. Following this Horace and his new wife Matilda of PIttsburgh Pennsylvania travel to Georgia and Florida with photos of a saloon palm trees and a lake in Palm Beach. This appears to be their honeymoon trip as they were married earlier in the month. They spend time enjoying Florida going to Jacksonville Palm Springs and photograph the palms and Atlantic Ocean. The couple later camps on the Susquehanna with views of the campsite and canoeing. Many photographs show the Duyckincks in fashionable dress with friends smiling in a hammock playing cards playing instruments and with family pets. In 1905 they had their first child and he can be seen posed in a carriage with his mother. One section of photographs shows Horace posed in a car.

Duyckinck started a car dealership and garage in Rising Sun and owned it for 41 years until 1950 when he retired. In 1909 he started his company as a bicycle store and repair center before the rise in the popularity of the automobile. He claimed later he found “the right business at the right time.†The first car the company sold was a two-cylinder Schacht a buggy-type vehicle. He once bragged of his skills that he drove “all the way to Philadelphia without a flat tire.†

A nice collection of photographs following a well-to-do Maryland couple on their travels and in their homelife. hardcover
