First published in 1890, and the most comprehensive orchid book of its time, there was a second edition in 1895, both written by Watson and Bean. Glikbarg 26. Watson in his introduction emphasizes his goal of simplifying the botanical descriptions while maintaining ample cultural notes. It contributed to the growing hobby of amateur orchid growing. This copy has 12 colored plates, although only 8 are normally found in this issue.
