John Williams Gunnison (1812-1853) was an American military officer and explorer.In 1849 he was second-in-command of the Stansbury Expedition to the West. That winter was particularly harsh and the expedition was put on hold until the spring. Gunnison made use of the time to befriend and study the culture of the Mormon inhabitants of the Salt Lake Valley. Gunnison was later killed on the 26th of October 1853, near Delta, Utah, purportedly by Indians in what is known as the Gunnison Massacre. **PRICE JUST REDUCED! RELIGION BX 12

Lovely copy of a scarce title in this much sought-after series. First published in 1925, Jenkins' mammoth compilation was the first illustrated guide to all our fish since 1884. This second edition is revised by the author with new appendix and text drawings. Very scarce in this condition. Marren, p.158.
Exhibition catalog for the show at the publisher's gallery. 224 pages on heavy ivory paper. Book is in excellent condition; new. Binding is solid and square, covers have sharp corners, exterior shows no blemishes, text/interior is clean and free of marking of any kind. Bound in bright red leatherette hardcover with gilt titles and decorative stamping to spine and both boards, the entire production reminds one of McSweeney's, with some 40 fonts, multi-color print abounding in embellishments and extravagances. Front cover also has printed pictorial pastedown. Color printed endpapers, spiderweb tissue at contents page and the beginning of the plates. The artist's work with nineteenth-century photographic techniques of salt print, cyanotype, gum bichromate, and palladium print. Full-page plates throughout, including 2 foldouts, both Fine.
