187374327Salt Lake City: N.p. 1873. ALS on Salt Lake House letterhead dated to March 24th 1873. Letter was written to Olive from her affectionate husband Andrew M. Letter has light toning at mailing folds and a " hole affecting content. This letter contains around 10 lines about the Salt Lake Tabernacle which the writer visited and states "I was much surprised with the great magnitude of the building it is capable of holding 14 thousand people and is I think the largest building in America. It is kept in fine order and has the largest organ on this ." The Tabernacle was completed in 1867 and is still considered an architectural wonder. N.p. unknown

View shows a group of nicely dressed men in top hats standing on Salt Lake City's Main Street below Third South with a parade float that features antlers and a banner for the 'Elks Eleven O'Clock Toast.' The men are standing in front of Ackerman Printing and a tavern whose signs advertises Salt Lake Brewing's Lager Beer. The Walker Mercantile building is prominent in the background. We believe this image was taken during the Salt Lake City Elks convention in August of 1902.<br /> <br /> "Yesterday the opening day of the National convention of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks was great. The weather was delightful not too warm and there were clouds enough to temper the rays of the sun. The great parade was a feature that attracted thousands and the excursus in the Tabernacle filled that immense auditorium." - Salt Lake Tribune 1902-08-03. unknown

Early edition this well-illustrated souvenir view book for Salt Lake City at the beginning of the 20th century featuring photographs executed by Savage for the Missouri Pacific & The Denver & Rio Grande Railroad systems. Images include the Native American tribes residing in Utah at the beginning of the 20th-Century BYU Mercur Utah mines Saltair Resort The Temple and more. Of special interest is the large panoramic birds-eye view of Salt Lake City. Savage 1832-1909 was a noted Mormon photographer who originally began shooting Mormon leaders in Council Bluffs IA before 1860 established his own studio named the Pioneer Art Gallery in 1866 and after it burned to the ground in 1883 established the Art Bazar Studio on the same site.
