An Irishman who served in the British army in India he retired as a Major General and was the brother of famed orator Richard Lalor Sheil. Held by major institutions in England and America but scarce in the Trade. Green cloth binding ruled on the covers with titling in gilt on the front. Clean text; 67 pages. The first 32 pages are the essay followed by extensive Notes as the remainder; then follows a 32-page publisher's catalong dated July 1867. Light rubbing at the margins tips and the spine; several pages have small tears due to hasty opening. Quite a solid copy of this rare treatis. First Edition. Hard Cover.
