19511858glsCleveland Ohio: The W. S. Tyler Company 1951. 12mo paperbound stapled b&w photo. illus. white wrappers 27 pp. Very Good with light rubbing to covers. Illustrated. From essay: More than a century ago the celebrate Frenchman Alexis de Tocqueville noted in his study of America that in a democracy the will of the customer rules production; and the customers are the masses of the people. The prevailing aim he said is to sell goods at a low price to all. To this end methods are devised for doing better work more quickly and more cheaply and for making goods not so much to gratify the whims of the wealthy as to supply the demands of ordinary customers. On the day we read the foregoing summary of de Tocqueville’s observations we also read the closing sentence in Dr. Thomas Nixon Carver’s autobiography published in 1949 called Recollections of an Unplanned Life.
