1949242891Akron OH / New York: The Saalfield Publishing Company 1949. Hardcover. Unpaginated about sixteen pages illustrated in monochrome and spot-color with three plates in full color two of which moveables with tabs to pull. First edition of this special adaptation; the 'animation' is woefully simplistic but still in good shape with the pull-tabs slightly worn and the moveables in perfect order. A sort of hardbound pamphlet with the paperstock gadgetry fastened around cardstock boards and a stapled textblock. Slight edgewear to book itself staples rusted with a touch of migration pictures and text clean unmarked and as noted above quite sound. The Saalfield Publishing Company hardcover books

195620505New York: E.P. Dutton & Co. Fair in Very Good dj. 1956. First American Edition. Hardcover. front hinge cracked rear hinge starting otherwise a decent copy with slight bumping to a couple of corners some age-toning to edges of text block; jacket a little edgeworn minor chipping at top of spine one tiny closed tear and associated creasing at top of front panel. Novel about "human beings caught in the turbulent maelstrom of war-torn Euroe of 1939 to 1950" specifically "ten men and women of different European nationality and political conviction who are thrust together in the melting pot of a D.P. camp." The book received the "René Scheckele Prize" touted in the jacket copy as "the most significant international literary prize for German-language authors" -- a slightly disingenuous claim since according to my research this prize was given out only once for this book and that was at least three years prior to the appearance of this edition. Maybe that explains why they misspelled it: correctly it was "Schickele." Note for whatever it's worth that the British edition had a singular title i.e. "They Fell from God's Hand." . E.P.
