Single sheet, 8vo., a near fine copy. Signed simply 'Tedder' in the writer's usual manner, the letter is written to Geoffrey Moore, founder of the Buccaneers Cricket Club, and demonstrates the airman's keen and continuing interest in the sport. Tedder was President of Surrey County Cricket Club from 1953 to 1958. The letter regretfully declines Moore's invitation to attend the Buccaneer's annual dinner (held at Lords). Marshal of the RAF Arthur William Tedder, 1st Baron Tedder (1890-1967) was one of Britain's most distinguished air commanders. Educated at Whitgift School and Magdalene College, Cambridge, he transferred from the Dorsetshire Regiment to the Royal Flying Corps in 1916, serving in France from 1915- to 1917 and in Egypt from 1918 to 1919. He was then commissioned in to the (new) Royal Air Force where was appointed Director of Training from 1934 to 1936, after which he became Commander RAF Far Eastern Forces. During WWII he was head of RAF Middle East Command, controlling Allied air operations in the Mediterranean and North Africa, including the evacuation of Crete and the defeat of Rommel; his air power was a vital component of Montgomery's victory at El Alamein. Having been promoted to Air Marshal, Tedder then took part in the early planning for D-Day, and was subsequently appointed Deputy Supreme Commander Allied Forces Europe (the most senior such British position) immediately beneath General Eisenhower, on whose behalf he signed at the German Surrender in 1945. In 1947 he delivered the Lees Knowles lecture, afterwards published as 'Air Power in War'. Following his retirement he served as Chancellor of Cambridge University and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC. Founded in 1930, The Buccaneers is one of the oldest and most famous 'wandering' clubs in English cricket (a 'wandering' club has no fixed home ground but plays consistently as an 'away' team relying on the hospitality of the 'home' clubs against which it competes). The Club's history has been written twice, by Clifford Bax in 1956 and more recently by Howard Spencer. ORIGINAL DOCUMENTS SIGNED BY TEDDER ARE EXTREMELY SCARCE.

The armoured plates were manufactured in England, each measuring 3.23x1 meter, 20.32 cm thick at the bottom and 15.24 cm at the top. The 2 giant plates were fit together and the whole leaned against special armoured support. Various types of ammunition were tested and with the lack of photographic technique the damage assessments had to be drawn. The military artist who executed the drawings is to be highly commended. Not only they are extremely accurate they are finely drawn and at a letter stage reproduced in colour lithography. Of utmost rarity. Probably only 3 other copies are known, all in The Netherlands.

Very Good French Original leaflet on a folded bifolium. Size: 20 x 16 cm; open size: 20 x 32 cm. In French. [3] p. Slight foxing and stains on paper, some chippings on folded traces and extremities. Overall a good copy. This extremely rare proclamation on the Patrona Halil Rebellion and the fire following the rebellion in 1730 within the Ottoman Empire, written to those living in France, especially Paris residents, was approved by Herault on 21 November 1730. The Patrona Halil Rebellion was a social uprising within the Ottoman Empire, which ended the so-called Tulip period and catapulted Sultan Mahmud I to the throne. The rule of this Sultan and the time until the 1760s was the last period of stability for the Ottoman Empire, as evidenced by the Belgrade Peace Treaty. The Ottoman Empire did not participate in the Seven Years' War, but the defeat in the Russo-Turkish War (1768-1774) destabilized it so that it could never again regain its previous stability. This printed rare leaflet details how this revolt started, and what its causes and consequences were. It is stated that the number of people who participated in this revolt, which was aggravated with the Janissaries not getting their salaries for an extended period of time, reached 100,000, the grand vizier and his grooms were strangled, and many people including officials and civilians died during the events. It is also stated that the news about the events in Istanbul was confirmed by Prince Alexander of Wirttemberg, who came from Vienna to Belgrade. Only one copy is located in Bibliotheque Nationale de France in OCLC: 460213436. Fine French Original wrappers. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In French. 10 p., 2 unnumbered b/w plates. Extremely rare early brief French edition of "Kitâb tu?fat al-zâ'ir fî târîkh al-Jazâ'ir wa-al-Amir 'Abd al-Qâdir" by Amir Abd al-Qadir's eldest son Mohammad Pasha, originally in Arabic in 1903 in 2 volumes, published for "the benefit of the national subscription of the Ottoman Fleet", including a brief biography of Abd al-Qadir, was an Algerian religious and military leader who led a struggle against the French colonial invasion of Algiers in the early 19th century. This pamphlet including Amir Abd al-Qadir's biography written by his eldest son Mohammad Pasha has two b/w plates showing a photograph of al-Qadir and his medal that the municipality of Paris had struck in 1862, in memory of the banquet offered on behalf of the Parisian population to the Emir Abd-el-Kader. Abd al-Qadir al-Jazairi (1808-1883), known as the Emir Abdelkader, Abdelkader ibn Muhieddine or Abdelkader El Hassani El Djazairi, was an Algerian religious and military leader who led a struggle against the French colonial invasion of Algiers in the early 19th century. As an Islamic scholar and Sufi who unexpectedly found himself leading a military campaign, he built up a collection of Algerian tribesmen that for many years successfully held out against one of the most advanced armies in Europe. His consistent regard for what would now be called "human rights", especially as regards his Christian opponents, drew widespread admiration, and a crucial intervention to save the Christian community of Damascus from a massacre in 1860 brought honors and awards from around the world. Within Algeria, his efforts to unite the country against French invaders saw him hailed as the "modern Jugurtha", and his ability to combine religious and political authority has led to his being acclaimed as the "Saint among the Princes, the Prince among the Saints". Amir Abd al-Qadir (Emir Abdelkader or Abdelkader El Hassani El Djazairi), (1808-1883), was a venerated Algerian Islamic scholar and a military leader who led a collective resistance against the mid-nineteenth century French colonial invasion of Algeria. He is remembered today as one of the nineteenth century's most inspiring leaders for his humane treatment of Christian opponents during Algeria's anti-colonial struggle and for leading an intervention to rescue the Christian community in Damascus from certain massacres in the midst of sectarian riots in 1860. Raised in his father's zawiya, he excelled as a student, memorizing the Qur'an by the age of 14, and studying the Islamic religious sciences as well as subjects such as philosophy, medicine, and mathematics. He was especially known as a gifted orator who outshone his peers in the recitation of poetry and in delivering religious talks. His father, a notable spiritual leader affiliated with the Qadiriyya order, recognized his son's precociousness and cast a leadership role upon him shortly after the invasion of Algeria by France in 1830. After his father, citing his old age, declined to lead a tribal campaign against the French in 1832, Abd al-Qadir found himself elected Emir, or Commander of the Faithful, to organize a resistance that, within a year under his leadership, would unite Algeria's western tribes. Emir Abd al-Qadir commenced a fifteen-year military struggle during which he often kept the French forces-which boasted one of the world's most advanced armies-at bay through skillful guerilla tactics, strategic negotiation and treaties, and visionary state-building. All the while, he demonstrated chivalry and compassion toward his opponents and allies alike, taking care, for instance, to respect the individual religious beliefs of his prisoners of war and also purposefully integrating Jews and Christians into his new state. At one point, he released his French prisoners because he did not have the means to feed them adequately. But, by 1847, partly due to ruthless scor

Fine Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original manuscript paper with its decorative frame. Paper size: 7,5x13 cm; frame size: 19x24 cm. In Ottoman script. 1 p. Signature of Halim by his very calligraphic style with 'Hattat el-Hac' title and seen one sentence down of paper: 'Gönderilen meblagi mütesekkir aldim hürmetlerim efendim' [i.e. 'I received the amount sent, thanks and gratitude']. Mustafa Halim Özyazici, was an Ottoman calligrapher and one of the last of the classical Ottoman calligraphers, using the Arabic script. He was a versatile calligrapher with a high level of expertise in many styles of script, but was widely regarded as a master jeli-thuluth. He is most noted for his work on various restoration projects, of both manuscripts and public buildings. He was born Mustafa Abdülhalim on 14 January, 1898 in the Hazeki district of Istanbul. He was the son of Nalinci Haci Cemâl Efendi, originally from Crimea and his mother was Sudanese. He was educated at Gülsen Junior High School, where he was given lessons in calligraphy by Hamid Aytaç, who recognised his talent and encouraged him to pursue calligraphy as a career. He later studied drawing and sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul. His formal calligraphy studies were with Hasan Riza Effendi (1849-1920) and Kamil Akdik (1862-1941) where he mastered the thuluth, nasih and riqâ scripts. In 1916, he was drafted into the Army. After completing basic training he worked in the Military Printing Department and also worked in Evkâf-i Islâmiyye Printing Press. Following his discharge from the Army in 1924, he opened an office in Bâbiâli Street (The Sublime Porte) where he prepared all types of calligraphy; business cards, seals and book covers. He also taught in various schools around the Cagaloglu district of Istanbul. From 1927, he was employed in the Imperial Chancery. When the Latin alphabet replaced Arabic lettering in 1928, he applied to go to Egypt, where classical calligraphy, using Arabic script, was still valued, but his application was rejected in 1929. He subsequently abandoned calligraphy altogether. However, during the 1940s, his skills in classical calligraphy found an outlet when he became part of a major restoration project which worked on repairs to numerous manuscripts in a variety of styles and the restoration of calligraphic reliefs and monumental art in historic, public buildings, including many mosques. In 1948, he was appointed to the position of 'old writing teacher' at the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul; a position he retained until his retirement in 1963. One of his responsibilities was to write the diplomas for those who were about to graduate from the Academy. He died on 30 September, 1964, ten days after being involved in a traffic accident. He was buried in the Kozlu Cemetery. Although he developed expertise in many different types of script, he was regarded as a master of jeli-thuluth script. He wrote a number of exercise books for students to practice scripts in nesih, thuluth-nesih, riq'a, diwânî and jeli diwânî, and which were part of a program designed to promote the art of calligraphy. These books are still being printed and distributed to students of calligraphy.

You'll learn: how to present offers; how to control the sales interview without being pushy; effective qualifying; how to make better listing presentations; what questions to ask and why not asking them could cost you a fortune; how to make an effective pricing presentation and deal with pricing objections; how to overcome objections and indecision and get to the closing; how to find good listing prospects." - from dust jacket.
