1913002856London: The DeVilbiss Mfg. Co. 1913. Very good. Brochure n. d. ca 1913; Half-fold then Double-parallel fold 8 pannels 9 1/2 x 7 unfolded; cream stock illustrated with monochrome images on orange background; a few small cuts to edges of folds; in very good condition. Dr. Allen DeVilbiss 1840 - 1917 was an inventor and Toledo's first ear nose and throat specialist. While treating patients in the rural communities around the city the doctor was dissatisfied with the lack of a device for easy application of medicines to people's throats and noses. In 1888 he developed an atomizer with a hollow rubber ball a metal jar and a small tube for the quick dispersal and coating of the throats with drugs. His invention was so successful that by 1890 he retired from his medical practice and founded the DeVilbiss Manufacturing Company. He would soon branch into manufacturing perfume atomizers perfumizers and the first practical compressed-air paint spray guns for the automotive industry protective coating for military equipment etc. By the early 20th century DeVilbiss had branches in Toledo New York London where the current sample catalog was printed and several other big cities. The brochure listed and beautifully-illustrated 9 nebulizers atomizers and perfumizers with inventory numbers and short descriptions. The DeVilbiss Mfg. Co. unknown books

Wright also a former Confederate. <br/><br/> Phillip Bender born c.1839 a German immigrant lived in Macon as a tailor by the 1860 United States Federal Census. Thomas Lowry Massenburg 1836-1908 was a Lieutenant in Massenburg's Battery Georgia Light Artillery; his brother Dr. R.C. Massenburg was also a member of this unit. Massenburg reached the rank of Captain and is listed on the Prisoner of War "parole of honor" statement he signed on May 10 1865 after his Department's surrender under the command of General Richard Taylor. He worked as a druggist with the family firm of Massenburg & Son and later as the City Clerk of Macon Georgia for many years. <br/> The Confederate Cross of Honor was originally known as the Southern Cross of Honor. "The Southern Cross of Honor award which later became known as the Cross of Military Service originated on October 13 1862 as an act of the Confederate Congress to recognize the courage valor and good conduct of officers non-commissioned officers and privates of the Confederate Army. Due to wartime shortages however the medals were unable to be made. The recipients' names were then recorded in an Honor Roll for future reference." The cross was later designed and issued by the United Daughters of the Confederacy beginning in July 1898. Birch born c.1834 was born in Maryland and was working as a watchmaker and jeweler in Harrodsburg Kentucky by the start of the war. He enlisted with the Second Regiment Kentucky Mounted Infantry; was hospitalized twice in 1863 at Tullahoma and Marietta; and was transferred to Company A 2nd Maryland Infantry on March 12 1864. He continued his profession in Macon after the war ended. <br/> R.J. Anderson born c.1844 of Macon enlisted in 1861 as 1st Sergeant Company A 20th Georgia Infantry. He fought at Manassas and Seven Pines lost his right arm at Gettysburg and was paroled out as Captain at Appomattox Court House on April 9 1865.<br/> Thomas B. Blackshear 1846-1911 enlisted with Company B 5th Regiment Georgia Reserves as a private and later served with Company E of the 1st Georgia Infantry Regiment. He was in the Macon Hospital during the summer of 1864; was shot in the leg in March 1865; and recovered enough to return to duty. After the war he worked as a photographer in Macon. <br/> The Confederate Cross of Honor was originally known as the Southern Cross of Honor. June 28 1828 at end along with a printed note: "Let us read this and then lend it to our neighbors." Docketted on verso: "Lacock v Jackson 1828." Paper uniformly browned some faint old staining ink note on verso bleeds through slight printers error at a fold affecting a few letters. Not in AMERICAN IMPRINTS. OCLC lists a copy at Michigan with the following catalogue note: "An attack upon Jackson's conduct in the Seminole War. Lacock had conducted an investigation of Jackson's conduct at the time." Lacock investigated Jackson as member of the U.S. Senate from Pennsylvania issuing a report in 1818 Sabin 38471 in which he concluded that Jackson had lied repeatedly in an attempt to justify his actions. He says in the present piece that Jackson "delighted to dwell with composure scenes of blood and carnage." After leaving the Senate Lacock returned to western Pennsylvania. A surveyor he devoted much of the rest of his career to the promotion and construction of the Pennsylvania & Ohio canal see DAB. <br/><br/> unknown books
