Flicker one featuring original players James Frawley and Joan Darling and one showing theatre entrance. Each with the stamp of "Horizon" magazine on the verso along with holograph annotations crediting photographer Morton Shapiro and noting one of the photograph's inclusion in the January 1962 issue. <br/><br/>Beginning with his work at Chicago's legendary Compass Players Flicker alongside the likes of Mike Nichols Elaine May and Del Close helped create and codify the rules and structure of American improvisational comedy. In 1960 he founded The Premise Theatre troupe in New York's Greenwich Village where they would perform improvised shows from 1960 to 1962 before eventually moving to the Comedy Theatre in London's West End. <br/><br/>In addition Frawley and Darling who would go on to long careers as television directors where Darling would become one of the first women to receive an Emmy nomination The Premise help launch the careers of Gene Hackman and Buck Henry. Flicker and Henry would co-write the 1964 film "The Troublemaker" based on their work at The Premise and which Flicker would direct and in which they both would appear alongside Frawley Darling and other members of the troupe. <br/><br/>Two photographs 13.5 x 9 inches. An early American printing of a great many through the remainder of the 19th century based on the London edition of 1853. An extensive treatment of basic mechanical drawing is followed by directions for the more refined skills of shading perspective etc. The plates detail all manner of geometric mechanical and architectural renderings to assist the draughtsman in his work. The book features portraits held within thick cardstock pages with short biographies penned in calligraphy on the opposite page. Signed portraits include: Queen Mary; Queen Alexandra; Albert Duke of York later King George VI; The Duchess of York Elizabeth The Queen Mother; Prince Henry; Prince George; Princess Mary Viscountess Lascelles; and Princess Victoria. Also includes an unsigned photo of the Prince of Wales. In near fine condition. Rodman Wanamaker was a department store magnate and patron of the arts as well as a major early supporter of aviation. He made major contributions to the liturgical arts in Great Britain including the sponsorship of a sterling silver altar and silver pulpit at the church of the Queen's estate in Sandringham England as well as a massive processional cross for Westminster Abbey. These five volumes contain the complete texts of the law codes drafted for New York State by David Dudley Field and his colleagues during the years 1847 to 1865. They include Field's two procedural codes and three substantive codes. In 1847 the New York state legislature established two committees one to "reduce into a written and systematic code the whole body of the law of this state" another to "revise reform simplify and abridge the rules and practice pleadings forms and proceedings of the courts of record of this State." Both included David Dudley Field a leading proponent of codification. These committees produced codes of civil and criminal procedure in 1850 a political code in 1860 and civil and penal codes in 1865. All of these were written for the most part by Field. Popularly known as the Field Codes they were very influential both in the United States and internationally. David Dudley Field 1805-1894 was the leading American proponent of codification during the nineteenth century. Born in Haddam Connecticut he was the son of the Rev. David Dudley Field a distinguished clergyman and author and the brother of Cyrus Field the financier who laid the first telegraph cable across the Atlantic Ocean Stephen Field Chief Justice of the California Supreme Court and Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court and Henry Field a notable clergyman and popular travel author. A graduate of Williams College he settled in New York City where he studied law was admitted to the bar and rapidly won a high position in his profession. Originally a Free-Soil Democrat he played an important role in the establishment of the Republican Party in New York and supported the Lincoln administration throughout the Civil War.
