1984004820Sacramento California 1984. 4to size hardcover with interior three ring binder. The vinyl binder has an illustrated front cover. Interior pockets in the front and back of the book allow you to tuck in additional recipes. The vinyl covers are "washable" and can be wiped with a damp cloth. The book is three inches wide one of the largest community cookbooks we've ever seen. Section dividers are tabbed with name of section and have original full-page sepia illustrations. The same artist has created decoration used throughout the book. There are also several bible quotes scattered throughout the book. Each section is paginated individually but the book does not have a total pagination. There are more than 200 pages in a variety of shades with 500 recipes. Each recipe is "signed" with the name of the contributor; there is no index of contributors. There is no Table of Contents but there is an extensive alphabetical index. Each section also has its own Contents page. This cookbook has one significant unusual feature: these recipes were tested and standardized a note in the book explains that they eliminated "quaint but vague language such as 'take a bissell'". We very rarely come across other community cookbooks other than Junior League that test the recipes. If a recipe calls for a can or package of some ingredient - this book tells you exactly what size to use. It also provides an organized list of ingredients and detailed instructions on how to make the recipe both of which are often missing in community cookbooks. Some recipes are annotated in reproduced handwriting i.e. this was part of the production not a handwritten note from a previous owner.
