No date of publication; section about the Lancaster General Hospital is dated 1912. Contains advertisements for Lancaster County businesses. Recipes include: apple snow; meat cakes; apple omelet; walnut pie; transparent pies; temperance mince pie; Comanche candy; kippered cherries; and various ice cream and water ice recipes. In addition to recipes includes other household tips such as how to take care of your parasol during the winter and how to bleach a straw bonnet. Handwritten recipe on front fixed endpaper for sponge cake from "Mrs. S." The Memoranda pages include two handwritten recipes: "Gertie Rogers fine Ginger Cake" and "Miss Landis Devil Food." Scarce. In Very Good- Condition: edges rubbed; tail of spine starting to fray; cloth is lightly soiled; older solid repair of both hinges; occasional minor stain on pages; otherwise clean and solid. Tenth Edition styled 'Ninth Edition' on title on laid paper free endpapers mildly browned title very lightly dust-soiled some mild and inoffensive age-staining principally at fore-margins and edges; nineteenth century cloth boards tan calf back with flat gilt bands second compartment with red leather label ruled and lettered in gilt worn but wholly legible BY BIRDSALL OF NORTHAMPTON uncut sometime neatly recased with new endpapers to style a remarkably bright crisp copy. The bnding is signed on front paste-down. Charlotte Mason's important collection was first published in 1773. Maclean records a further seven eighteenth-century editions; Bitting adds a Dublin imprint of 1778 as a result of which subsequent copies are one edition later than that stated hence that with 'eighth edition' on title in actually the ninth Cagle 864 and the present issue styled 'ninth edition' is actually the tenth see Cagle pp. 621-3. The present edition retains the introduction to the first edition the advertisement to the sixth edition and the appendix on poultry the dairy the kitchen and fruit gardens. The poetry in the book is in dilect but respectfully so and the drawings are not characterchures. 102 pages with foreword by the State Historian of Georgia and the Poet Laureate of Georgia . 75 recipes. Book has no jacket. Front cover is illustrated with bright yellow lettering and flower and fruit illustrations. Title in yellow lettering down spine. There are 3 small spots of what appears to be yellow paint at the very top of front panel next to the spine. The book covers are bright green with no wear or soiling and sharp corners. The interior is clean with no foxing or marking. Old small bookstore label from Barber's Bookstore in Hendersonville N.C. plsced at top of front pastedown.
