Signed by Dalí with an original drawing of a horse on verso of half-title page. Publisher's red cloth with horse illustration in gilt to front board and black label lettered in gilt to spine. Very good with some fading to spine some rubbing to spine label and dimming to spine gilt front board gilt bright and a hint of offsetting to endpapers. Overall an attractive copy scarce signed. The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini was written by the Italian sculptor and draftsman in the sixteenth century although it was not published until 1728. This work detailing the personal life of a well-known artist has become perhaps the most important autobiography of the Italian Renaissance giving readers a glimpse into the lives of historical figures like Michelangelo and the Medici family. In his writing Cellini is unconcerned with maintaining a proper image of himself and uses humor and exaggerations to embellish his story even describing violent attacks he supposedly committed and otherworldly experiences he endured. This trade edition was preceded by a 1946 limited edition of 1000 numbered copies signed by Dalí. Signed. First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. New York: Doubleday & Company hardcover

Binding square and strong plates clean and bright. <br /> <br /> <p>The Renaissance sculptor and master goldsmith Benvenuto Cellini is known as much for his Autobiography as for his art. Self-aggrandizing and partly invented the memoir is a well-written and highly entertaining addition to the Western canon. Both Cellini's artwork and his posthumously published autobiography influenced the Surrealist artist Salvador Dali who more than matched the Renaissance man in bravado famously writing in his own autobiography:<br /> <br /> <p>"Every morning upon awakening I experience supreme pleasure: that of being Salvador Dali and I ask myself wonderstruck what prodigious thing will he do today this Salvador Dali. 148162New York: Lyle Stuart Inc 1971. Rare first edition of this book of illegal recipes. Square quarto original boards illustrated with diagrams throughout. Association copy inscribed by the publisher to Salvador Dali "To Salvador Dali - Not as good as your cookbook - but the Spanish edition will be better - Lyle Stuart." The true first edition of this infamous manual that includes instructions on making bombs weapons drugs and much besides. This copy in the rarer hardback edition. Stuart's publishing house developed a reputation as a publisher of controversial books he collaborated with Salvador Dali when he helped publish his set of six lithographs The Lyle Stuart Tarot. A letter of provenance accompanies this book. Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Introduction by Peter M. Bergman. An exceptional association. Written by William Powell as a teenager and first published in 1971 at the height of Vietnam War protests and the counterculture movement in the United States 'The Anarchist Cookbook' was created as an educational tool meant to teach the general public "that violence is an acceptable means to bring about political change" and provide them with the skills to do so. The book contains instructions for the manufacture of explosives rudimentary bugging devices lethal and nonlethal weapons as well as instructions for the home manufacture of illicit drugs including LSD. When Powell converted to Anglicanism in 1976 he attempted to have the book removed from circulation but because the copyright had been issued to the original publisher Lyle Stuart and subsequent publishers that purchased the rights circulation continued until 1991.
