Mourlot 350 Bloch 1017. Lithograph printed in 24 colors. Published in A Los Toros avec Picasso.

The lithographs were issued unsigned for the series A Los Toros avec Picasso and published by Sauret in 1961 in an edition of 125. There was also an edition of 50 signed examples printed from the same lithographic stones by Mourlot Frères at the same time.

The stone for this lithograph was originally drawn in black as were the other three lithographs in the series. However the publisher Andre Sauret asked Picasso if he would add a little color to the image. Picasso had a box of crayons in 24 different colors and used each of them to color this image. Much to his surprise the Mourlot studio printers succeeded in the difficult task of printing all 24 colors plus black. This explains the two dates on this print. The black version was done 6.3.61 and the colors added 21.4.61
Draeger Freres, George Braziller. hardcover

195421208181954. Paris: Editions de la Revue. 1954. Folio. Original illustrated boards designed by Picasso depicting the profile of his lover Genevieve Laporte with title lettering in purple; 16 full-page original colour lithographs and 164 black and white reproduction heliogravures; encased in glassine wrapper; near fine.First edition. Double number edition of the Verve art revue showcasing only the works of Pablo Picasso.Verve the modernist Parisian art magazine at the forefront of the radical creative aesthetic of its time was first published in 1937 with famous cover artwork by Henri Matisse. Subsequently it was responsible for showcasing the most distinguished characters of the Parisian art scene of the 20th century including textual contributions by prominent transgressive authors such as James Joyce. This edition features accompanying words by Rebecca West and prolific Surrealist writer and anthropologist Michel Leiris. Its founder Teriade pseudonym of the Greek Stratis Eleftheriades made the statement ""Verve was born in December 1937. In times of agony such things happen when there are big crises when we are really desperate and we do have nothing to lose or rather we are afraid that everything will be lost while waiting for disaster . Then at this precise moment everyone is able to act even to act with passion"".The year of this publication 1954 marked the death of Picasso's artistic rival but great friend Henri Matisse and his passing considerably affected Picasso who in some way relied on their competition as a catalyst. With this new absence of living rivalry Picasso was inspired to interact with the artists of the past more than ever continuously holding conversation with historical masters through his own new bold interpretations. hardcover

- ENGLISH DESCRIPTION : - First edition, first printing. 1 loose leaf (287 x 194 mm) with the original etching "Femme assise" (245 x 131 mm) signed and dated on the copper: "Picasso 23.D.43". 1 of 200 proofs on Lafuma vellum (n° 74). (Atelier Lacourière for the printing of the engraving). Historical notice: Picasso engraved this plate in December 1943 for the collection "Contrée" dedicated to Youki who shared the life of the poet since 1930. The work, printed on May 31, 1944, was published after the arrest of Robert Desnos by the Gestapo occurred on February 22. Desnos died in deportation on June 8, 1945 at the Terezine camp in Czechoslovakia. Exceptional "surrealist" etching by Picasso. The artist combines here cubist (the architecture is identical to the 3rd plate of Saint-Matorel - 1911) and surrealist processes with reminiscences of previous engravings (see the bust for the Anthologie de l'Humour Noir de Breton - 1938-1940 )… - Edition: Paris, Robert-J.
