25952Without date but from the 1930s. No place. Not present among the twelve portraits of Best on the National Portrait Gallery inventory. A black and white collotype print covering a 13 x 17.5 cm piece of matt paper with no border. Lightly aged and in good condition apart from the thinnest of strips no more than half a centimetre deep along the top of the image taken up when the print was removed from its mount. This negligibe loss only affects the background and would be easily hidden on the photograph being mounted. A head and shoulders shot of an anxious-looking Best staring to her left with short hair style and side parting plucked eyebrows prim lips and sensible outfit against blurred background. Without date, but from the 1930s. No place. unknown

In fair condition lightly aged. He apologises for the delay in returning 'Purple Dust' explaining that he has only recently learnt 'definitely that the film will claim me until the end of October'. He asks Capur or his secretary 'to call in any time at the Theatrical bookshop in your court - I cannot remember the name of the shop - nor its proprietor except that his first name is Barry. i.e. Barry Duncan of St Martin's Court London The shop is between your office door and Wyndham's side wall.' He asks for Duncan to be informed that Pettingell 'saw a poster of a Peter Daubeny presentation I fancy it is "The Lady from Edinburgh" for which the decor was done by Gladys Calthrop'. TWO: Black and white 20 x 25 cm film still of Pettingell and Jack Hulbert clowning with the waiter in a restaurant. In fair condition lightly aged and worn. Plates clean and fine dated 1802-1805 some watermarked 1801 binding fresh and lovely printed by Watts and Bridgewater Queen-st. A superb example of this rare edition. 270401 mm. Ray 74. Tooley 231. Acclaimed as the father of modern landscape and of modern pastoral DNB Gainsborough was also the favorite of British high society Janson History of Art 452. Wells and Laporte etched these plates from 1802-05. While the first edition of this volume calls for 71 plates this volume has one additional illustration: there are two different essays of the second plate.
