Coster Wilmerding name of Richard Creed Paris 1700 inside front cover with an 1814 notation that the book belonged to Richard Creed who was slain at the Battle of Blenheim and was being presented to Miss Katherine Simcoe signed Wililam Walcot names may actually be different that is what we could make out from the handwriting. In the foreground a young man playing a lute under a tree with Cupid aiming an arrow at him; beyond is a park with a loggia and figures making music eating and drinking at a table in the open air; at left is a Diana fountain a female torso spurting water from her breasts atop a turtle; by the musician's feet are various musical instruments a sport racket a sword gloves and a moneybag. Inscribed on the bottom:'Dum mihi. foelix qui potuit dicere talis eram.'; number '253' added with brown ink titled above:'AMOR' Inscription Content: Lettered above with AMOR. In Latin. 12mo. 5 x 3 inches; 12.5 x 7.5 cm. 16 406pp. 4 title page vignettte eight full page engravings by Raphael Sadeler 3/4 leather with marbled boards and raised bands. An epigram likely by Bidermann printed beneath each engraving. Bookplate of Colonel Cooper. All edges gilt. Lacks spine label altho date is printed at heel of spine. Good inner hinges reinforced rear inner hinge paper cracked but binding is holding and tight. Text clean with almost no foxing and no staining; no tears and no chips. Plates are nicely detailed and all VG or better in condition. Pictures available on request. Appears to be 2nd edition. . hardcover
