One of the longest poems in European literature it took the author over twenty years to complete Wikipedia. A fine copy the binding square and firm the contents clean throughout and without previous owner's marks. Complete with the lightly rubbed dustwrapper that remains without fading loss or tears. Inscribed by New York School abstract expressionist painter in black ink on the front endpaper "For Newton Schenck / with many thanks / Robert Motherwell / 1983". The recipient Charles Newton Schenck III was a prominent lawyer civic leader and founder of New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre who was a champion of the arts and instrumental in creating the New Haven arts district. Both Schenck and Motherwell were recipients of the Connecticut Arts Awards in 1980 and 1978 respectively. The 1977 first edition of this title sold out soon after publication. In addition to the extra illustrations this revised edition adds Dore Ashton's essay and an interview with the artist by Barbaralee Diamonstein.
