Aron Gudelman (Ataki, Bessarabia, 1890 - New York, 1978) was a sculptor, illustrator, etcher, lecturer, and teacher. Born in Russia, he immigrated to New York in 1905 at the time of pogroms in Russia. After attending the Cooper Union and the National Academy of Design, in 1914 he studied with Jean-Antoine Injalbert at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Supporting himself as a machinist in the 1920s, Goodelman became a communist. His concerns about social and economic conditions were expressed in his art. He participated in exhibitions at the John Reed Club in the early 1930s. After World War II, Goodelman created artworks related to the Holocaust. He taught at City College of New York in the 1960s (National Museum of American Art, 1996) . Very light wear, spine sunned with touch of wear at crown and foot. A beautiful copy, with the original velveteen on the cloth cover still very much in tact. Very Good Condition (Yid-26-8A)
Un volume in 8vo grande (14x23 cm) di (8)-1039 pagine. Alcuni articoli di giornale e documenti sullo stesso tema aggiunti all'inizio e alla fine del volume. INVIO AUTOGRAFO di Laborde “a M. Olivier” alla copertina della brossura conservata dentro il volume. Legatura coeva in mezza pelle (usure alle cerniere, qualche mancanza di carta agli angoli). Questo rapporto di Laborde sulle arti applicate all'Expo di Londra del 1851 viene considerato dagli storici il documento fondativo del design moderno. Teorico dell'unione delle arti e dell'industria, fu nominato alla testa della commissione che doveva premiare la sezione "Beaux Arts" dell'Esposizione di Londra del 1851, la prima ad unire appunto i due concetti di arte ed industria. Il frutto di quella esperienza fu riassunto in un rapporto che venne pubblicato prima sotto il titolo "De l'Union de l'Art et de l'Industrie", e poi nella collezione ufficiale di cui costituisce appunto il tomo VIII. Dopo un'introduzione storica, Laborde passa in rassegna la situazione delle arti e dell'industria nei principali paesi, per poi proporre una serie di iniziative ai poteri pubblici: educazione degli operai, scuole tecnico-artistiche, manifatture modello per sviluppare la diffusione di prodotti "di buon gusto". Numerose le pagine nelle quali si possono vedere in nuce i concetti di design, di industria della moda, di industria del lusso. “Son Rapport sur l'exposition universelle de Londres, en 1851, eut un certain retentissement dans le domaine des arts décoratifs, dont il blâmait la surcharge ornementale” (Jean-René Gaborit).

Sappiamo che non sempre materiali e tecnologie risultano innocui per l'uomo e per l'ambiente, non sempre le risorse vengono utilizzate al meglio; ma anche che la volontà di rinnovamento e aggiornamento proveniente dal settore si scontra spesso con ambiti di confusione e incertezza. Del resto, la produzione edilizia contemporanea raramente risponde alle esigenze di qualità: qualità progettuale, esecutiva, organizzativa, sociale ecc. e quindi una architettura "più corretta" costituirebbe già un importante traguardo. Una architettura più attenta alla salute degli abitanti e meno sprecona è del resto già nelle strategie di molti strumenti legislativi, formativi, editoriali, quale obiettivo raggiungibile e che non richiede importanti aggiustamenti culturali dal momento che è possibile appoggiarsi a studi, strumenti, tecnologie approfonditi e affidabili. Questo "Manuale di bioarchitettura" si pone tuttavia obiettivi ancora più ambiziosi.

Il "Manuale di progettazione" di Franco Zagari è un volume della collana "TecnoTipo" edita dal Gruppo Mancosu Editore, una collana dedicata ai manuali di progettazione, in grande formato e riccamente illustrati, rivolti a professionisti ed esperti. Il volume è organizzato in maniera sistematica per guidare i professionisti nella progettazione e nella costruzione di giardini. A esempi di progetti e realizzazioni si alternano indicazioni di carattere più prettamente manualistico, affermando in maniera chiara l'importanza della creatività e dell'intuizione nella pratica progettuale. L'apertura del manuale è dedicata alla storia della progettazione dei giardini, una sintesi costituita da immagini e didascalie per ambientare subito il lettore all'interno di un mondo ricco di esperienze diverse. Una corretta e approfondita analisi del contesto nel quale si è chiamati a operare è il primo passo per arrivare a un buon progetto che, in particolare nel caso dei giardini, non può che essere un continuo processo di interazione con il luogo. Il progetto viene poi scomposto negli aspetti normativi e procedurali più direttamente inerenti la pratica professionale per poi riarticolarsi sui suoi temi centrali: la fisiologia (il supporto che ne assicura la vita), il progetto morbido ("soft") degli elementi viventi (la vegetazione) e il progetto duro delle opere edilizie che lo integrano e completano. Il manuale contiene una amplia selezione di immagini di progetti e di giardini realizzati in cui compaiono anche le opere dello studio Zagari, bagaglio di esperienza che offre concrete garanzie e riscontri ai suggerimenti contenuti nel testo. Una scelta molto ampia di opere in un panorama contemporaneo e internazionale costituisce un ulteriore repertorio di idee con le quali confrontarsi. Il volume è ricco di riferimenti bibliografici, spesso commentati, che possono orientare il progettista in un articolato percorso di formazione e perfezionamento.

This group of six separate images printed from blocks on a sheet of Ingres d'Arches paper may be a publisher's proof. The portfolio features quotes from Swedenborg Theodora Ward Wallace Stevens Rainer Maria Rilke Fra Giovanni and Dante on the relationship between humans and angels. The text is presented in various typefaces and sizes alongside stark and beautifully executed linocuts by Rogers an artist and printmaker in Olympia who operated the Sammerb Press. Rogers is featured in the 1995 letterpress anthology The Ladies Printing Bee: An Anthology of Thirty-Nine Letterpress Printers Addressing the Subject of Women's Work which was printed in Sedro-Woolley WA. The design of Angelos is by Bernardo PeBenito who was active in Seattle sharing a studio with Art Chantry. <br /> <br /> We find no mention of this portfolio in OCLC nor elsewhere. The publication is profusely illustrated throughout with photographic reproductions and drawings in b/w. This issue includes articles promoting the wintery landscape and winter sports of the area of Garmisch-Partenkirchen in the Bavarian Alps where the then recent 1936 Winter Olympics were held as well as the 20th anniversary of the German railway catering company Mitropa the anniversary of the death of English-German racial philosopher Houston Stewart Chamberlain and articles on the Carnival celebrations in the country. Include images taken by infamous Nazi photographer and publisher Heinrich Hoffmann. Striking art deco front cover design by German designer Ottomar Anton back cover by Edwin Henel.<br /> <br /> Wrappers with light foxing to the front cover and moderate foxing the back cover.
