Barsdorf 1908 S. 31 f. der Einführung von Heckscher. - 10 schwarzgekleidete Männer mit gefältelten breiten weißen Rundkragen u. Manschetten lange schwarze Mäntel weite Kniebund-Hosen schwarze Strümpfen u. Schuhe mit großen Schnallen den Dreispitz in der Hand geleiten den schlichten hellen kleinen Sarg einer jungfräulichen Leiche wie die richtkranzähnliche grüne Totenkrone belegt. Ihnen voran schreitet ein elfter der statt des Kragens ein weißes Halstuch trägt. Mehrere der Männer halten einem alten Brauch folgend eine Zitrone in der Hand die die Hoffnung auf Auferstehung u. ewiges Leben symbolisierte u. meist dem Verstorbenen mit ins Grab gegeben wurde nach anderer Auslegung aber auch über den Leichengeruch überdecken sollte. Frauen waren von einem Leichenzug der Zünfte ausgeschlossen vgl. Dülmen Kultur u. Teignmouth notes that "Lady Teignmouth has lately presented me with another son." The engraved portrait drawn by J. Richmond engraved by W. Walker was published by Hatchard & Sons in 1843. John Shore 1st Baron Teignmouth 1751-1834 was an official of the East India Co. and served as Governor General of Bengal from 1793 to 1797; the following year he was created Baron Teignmouth. He was also the first president of the British and Foreign Bible Society. The author Zacharias Topelius 1818-1898 through his work as a writer journalist and professor of history played a pivotal role in the creation of the Finnish identity in the 19th century. En Resa i Finland Travel in Finland employs illustrations by the most famous Finnish artists of the time. The beautiful steel-engraved plates are based on original paintings by Berndt Lindholm A. v. Becker B. Reinhold Hjalmar Munsterhjelm Karl Emanuel Jansson Robert Wilhelm Ekman J. Knutson W. Holmberg Oslar Kleineh and Albert Edelfelt. Originally issued in parts in 1872 and 1873 this copy was apparently taken to the binder without the title page and 8 preliminary pages. The text is in Swedish. The plates were engraved by A. Weger and are captioned in Finnish Swedish and French. This is the first edition not the modern reprint. In Very Good Condition: corners rubbed; cover slightly soiled; spine faded; corners of a few leaves faintly dampstained not impacting image or text; light foxing on a few plates; otherwise clean and bright. 97061301Dong Ho Village n.d. ca 1950's. A suite of 15 color woodcuts each print ca. 7.5 x 13 cxm card matted contained in a ma- tching folder with one more print layed down. These hand make prints are used for the Lunar New Year cele- bration of "Tet" in Vietnam. They are displayed inside homes and by doors to invoke or exclude what is depicted in the prints in the hopes of gaining good luck good fortune and a good social life in the New Year. These prints were made in Dung Ho village about 30 miles North of Hanoi and have been made there for hundreds of years. Hand-made printed in color by hand on woodblockss. Each print depicts a charming folk illustration in a variety of 15 celebrated and famous images or icons. unknown
