Laun" stamped in gilt on front cover. 63 1 pp illustrated throughout images printed in slight browntone with inserts including "New Kiel Table Designs Supplement to Catalogue 28" and some price lists circulars and flyers. Products include dining room suites tables library tables desks stools tabourettes pedestals and "novelties." The Kiel Furniture company was founded in 1882 and employed German-American immigrants in the small town of Kiel and has been in business ever since now under the name A. A. Laun Furniture Company named for the younger brother of J. B. Laun one of the original presidents of the company who took over as vice president and general manager in 1916. The types of products featured in these catalogs reflects both the tastes of their clientele mainly middle-income Midwestern households but also reflects the Stickleyesque influence of Arts & Crafts and Mission style aesthetics. Oblong folio 22.5 x 11.5 inches tan cloth with leather corners book very good some wear and rubbing to leather soil to cloth contents very good. Approximately 150 sheets some printed some handwritten. A unique book done for and by the Kiel Furniture Co. of Kiel and Milwaukee Wisconsin in order to provide extensive statistics on sales figures by place etc in order to provide the company with data for determining sales goals for the coming year. Sandmeyer's system provided graphic and statistical analysis to chart sales figures and their breakdown by state and by town according to several factors. Copious handwritten entries. Excellent for any researcher interested in the Kiel Furniture company's economics history as well as furniture sales by state and community. Extra postage required for this overlarge book. R. E. RGW18773Watercolour heightened with gum arabic some numerals and words added in pencil mounted on board mount inscribed with name and address of Jellinek also titled in pencil one chair identified as 'chair ingenieur'. The firm of Jellinek were based in Paris at 95 rue Faubourg. They specialised in making leather chairs in the English style. Presumably this watercolour was to be used to illustrate one of the firm's catalogues. hardcover

This auction set a record for the highest price paid for a piece of American furniture when Henry F. Dupont purchased Item 696 - "The Very Important Van Pelt Chippendale Carved Mahogany Highboy Philadelphia circa 1770" for the sum of $44000 1929 pre-crash dollars!!! for Winterthur. Lot 656 "Important Queen Anne Carved Fiddle-Back Side Chair Philadelphia circa 1730" sold for $9000 and in January 2002 this same chair sold to a private collector at Christie's New York for $666000 believed to be an auction record for American Queen Anne side chairs. The similar chair Lot 655 sold for $38500 at Sotheby's in June 1990.
