The recipient was in all probability Mel Traxel who served as still photographer for this production as well as three earlier films based on Simon's scripts including THE SUNSHINE BOYS. Denoted a "final draft" of this original screenplay for Simon's detective parody directed by Robert Moore starring Peter Falk and Ann Margaret and released in 1977. A novelization by Robert Grossbach was published in 1978 as a Warner paperback original but there was no contemporary publication of Simon's own original work. Denoted the "third draft" of this original screenplay by Simon but shot through with colored revises dated over the span above. The 1977 release directed by Herbert Ross starred Marsha Mason and Richard Dreyfuss and was nominated for many awards. 1986WRCLIT80588Np: Universal Pictures 1986. Seven 14 x 11" images printed on stiff card with renderings of prospective artwork and copy four with dated labels. Near fine. A group of what would appear to be test renderings of design work for the one-sheet for the forthcoming film with notations indicating the designs were "tested" on dates as early as June and July well in advance of the December premiere. Six of the seven designs are composed largely of photographic sources and vary chiefly in the caption texts describing the film and include the design finally adopted. The seventh features entirely different artwork rough draft pencil drawing dated in August and features a somewhat suggestive theme Eugene under the dining room table looking up the skirt of a female character while recovering a dropped napkin. Set in 14th Century Norway Kristin Lavransdatter is the daughter of a wealthy landowning family who have arranged a marriage for her. She joins a convent while awaiting her marriage to avoid growing drama and violence surrounding her engagement.
