Bradbound in stenciled wrappers with title revision in manuscript and title lettered on spine. A "Second revised draft" of this very early original screenplay by Crichton incorporating many leaves of revises spanning the period noted above. The film was released in 1973 as EXTREME CLOSE UP under the direction of Jeannot Szwarc but garnered little notice even under the alternate rerelease title SEX THROUGH A WINDOW. This film was released in the same year as WESTWORLD the other film with a claim to being the first based on a Crichton script; precedence is unknown to this cataloguer. A little known undertaking from early in Crichton's Hollywood career and a much less common script than that for its better known contemporary. unknown books

Elliott Thomas is a young boy who plays Dungeons and Dragons and lives with his mom Wallace his sister a seven year-old Barrymore and his brother Robert McNaughton in a typical American suburb-typical until they meet E.T. an alien life-form with a sweet tooth who wants to return to his home planet. Elliott meets the alien one night and brings it into his home keeping it a secret from his family and the community. Government agents eventually discover the alien and quarantine Elliott's house bringing E.T. in for observation. Elliott and the alien have a strong psychic connection evidenced by their shared symptoms when E.T. becomes ill. With Elliott's perseverance and E.T.'s alien superpowers the extraterrestrial returns home but not before coining a few phrases "phone home" and taking an iconic flight with Elliott on his bike before a full moon. <br/><br/>"E.T." had an unparalleled impact on the culture and even buying habits of the Western world: the phrase "phone home" would become part of the American lexicon if briefly and sales for Reese's Pieces E.T.'s food of choice skyrocketed in the film's aftermath. Fodder for for an episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000 Season 4 Episode 13 Sept 14 1991 where Gordon was resurrected as a master of bad taste.<br/><br/>Small-town teenagers and their high school science teacher fight a gigantic mutant spider. The last of the "giant creature" films directed by Gordon from the 1950s. In an attempt to ride on the success of "The Fly" which debuted a few months earlier in 1958 the film's working title "The Spider" replaced "Earth vs. the Spider" on most of its promotional materials. The screen title however was never officially changed.<br/><br/>Yellow titled wrappers rubber-stamped copy No. 48.
