238946 August 1946; on letterhead of the Savoy Hotel London. 2pp 12mo. Twenty-one lines of text. In good condition lightly aged. Signed ‘Lilian Gish’. Begins: ‘Dear Miss Murchison I was so touched by your very sweet letter which was handed to me by the BBC just before we went on the air. / It is heartwarming to come back to England after these long and dreadful years and find that our film friends have not forgotten us. We for our part are full of admiration for the courage and uncomplaining patience of your brave people.’ The ‘brief glimpse of England’s battered cities’ has left her party with ‘unforgettable memories’ and they hope to return for a longer visit ‘when the present travel restrictions are relaxed’. The ‘regulations governing air travel’ prevented them from bringing any photographs so she asks her ‘to take the word for the deed and accept our kindest regards and best wishes’. 6 August 1946; on letterhead of the Savoy Hotel, London. unknown

199916553JAustin: University of Texas Press 1999. First Edition. Signed by the author Bernard Gordon and inscribed: “To Bebe & Leonard old friends good friends forever. Love Bernieâ€. Fine in a fine dust jacket. The publisher writes about the book: “The Hollywood blacklist which began in the late 1940s and ran well into the 1960s ended or curtailed the careers of hundreds of people accused of having ties to the Communist Party. Bernard Gordon was one of them. In this highly readable memoir he tells a engrossing insider’s story of what it was like to be blacklisted and how he and others continued to work uncredited behind the scenes writing and producing many box office hits of the era. Gordon describes how the blacklist cut short his screenwriting career in Hollywood and forced him to work in Europe. Ironically though his is a success story that includes the films El Cid 55 Days at Peking The Thin Red Line Krakatoa East of Java Day of the Triffids Earth vs. the Flying Saucers Horror Express and many others. He recounts the making of many movies for which he was the writer and/or producer with wonderful anecdotes about stars such as Charlton Heston David Niven Sophia Loren Ava Gardner and James Mason; directors Nicholas Ray Frank Capra and Anthony Mann; and the producer–studio head team of Philip Yordan and Samuel Bronstonâ€. The book is in fine condition. University of Texas Press unknown

1976100695<p>Los Angeles California March 17th 1976. 1976. Fine. - Over 500 words typed on 2 sheets of her light gray 11 inch high by 8-1/2 inch wide "Ruth Webb Ent. Artists Representatives" stationery with a light web motif in teal as background to her name at the top. Sorry to have missed Jean Dalrymple when Jean was in Los Angeles Ruth Webb responds to the New York City producer's inquiry about possibilities in L.A. "I think it would be great to have you out here but I am not quite clear on what you want to do. If you thought you might be interested in agenting there is a vast field of activity in the film and TV end of things." "There isn't the same kind of live theatre going on year round as you must know. Outside of opening nights most of the social activity goes on in people's home. It just isn't the same aura or opportunity as used to be the case back East I mean going to the theatre." Though at a loss for ideas she does offer some possibilities: "I am not quite sure what would interest you in a production. I think that GLORIA SWANSON's new concert is top entertainment and has already proven it will draw well. I attach material if not sent previously. I can offer RICHARD EAGAN in MURDER AMONG FRIENDS the recent Jack Cassidy Broadway show." She goes on to mention EARL WRIGHTSON and LOIS HUNT as well as MARTHA RAYE "She is top box office as is MICKEY ROONEY however Mickey goes back to Drury Lane open end. He could be available at a very good price in excess pf $5000 for a Summer tour." Ruth Webb concludes: "Anything you would do would be a success and I would love to be a part of it." Signed "With Love Ruth". Jean Dalrymple has drawn a line in pencil across the cover page to indicate she has read the letter.
