Bookplate of Thomas Fuller and his signature on the Anstey title page -- he was an architect native of Bath. With frontispiece. The Anstey is the 13th edition; the Bath Characters by Warner is a second edition from 1808 light foxing small clipped porttion from title page probably a previous owner's name; The Wonders of a Week at Bath appears to be a first edition from 1811 and has occasional pencil marginalia by a helpful old reader. Berry's Scotsman's Dream is a work of fiction set initially in 1933. A general synopsis is as follows: three men A.W. Tillinghast Alister MacKenzie and Donald Ross considered to be the three greatest golf course architects in history agree to design a golf course for the future which will be revealed and made public in the year 2000; the golf course they jointly created will then be built and opened for play. They proceed to spend a week on the land which Tillinghast claims is "the most perfect place I have ever seen for a golf course." A hand written copy of the poem "Jesus the Pearl of Great Price" by William H. Warner. A note at the bottom of the last page explains it has been copied from the original by Eugene P. Greider to "his beloved friend George A. Weiss June 18th 1850." Both men were Moravian missionaries who worked in the Caribbean. While little is known about Weiss Greider was born in Lancaster Pennsylvania was an apprentice shoemaker before getting the call and serving as a missionary then traveling deacon in Indiana Maryland and New Jersey before being located in the Southern Province of the Moravian Church in North Carolina. unknown

Born in Wisconsin on January 1 1901 Jones worked for Paramount Pictures in the early 1930s and went on to be the head of the still photography department at Universal Pictures in 1935 where he worked well into the 1950s.<br /> <br /> Angel was a British actress who starred in over 50 films between 1931 and 1979. She is perhaps best known for "The Mystery of Edwin Drood" 1935 "The Three Musketeers" 1935 "The Informer" 1935 and "The Last of the Mohicans" 1936 as well as providing the voices of Wendy's mother in Walt Disney's "Peter Pan" 1953 and Alice's sister in Walt Disney's "Alice in Wonderland" 1951. VG book. 8vo xvi17-5742pp. Many in text illus & full page plates. Newly rebound in brown leather w orig spine labels. . According to BAL "AGE" just came on the market Christmas day 1873. Firsts Magazine vol 8 # 7/8 says it came on the market Dec 11 '73 and 12000 copies sold that year. BAL & Firsts Magazine both state the very first printings had "Eschol" on pages vii 27 247 and 355as does this copy. Eschol was quickly changed to Beriah. "Firsts" believes this corection nwas done in the 2nd printing. Very early copies also have the line repeats on pages 351 2 & 3. This copy DOES NOT have these repeats. But it has all the other BAL 1st state points. BAL also says the genuine tp also includes "White" as one of the illustrators and "Wm H Lockwood" is on the verso as does this copy. A variant tp contained neither White nor Lockwood. Not sure if these tp & cp points for the 1873 edition apply also to the 1874 edition. This copy is a very early printing. Fold out "SALT LICK" has been folded wrong but there are no tears. Tight no loose pages very nice inside. Just a few soiled or foxed spots. Labels are gilt lettered black leather so originally bound in sheep. Twain's indictment of the Robber Baron era and the present!!!!! . American Publishing Co hardcover
