A well illustrated analysis of the various archaeologist discoveries made in Bath written by Richard Warner and published by order of the Mayor of Bath in 1797. First and only edition. Bound in half-morocco on marbled boards. Illustrations include an title page vignette engraving as well as fourteen engraved plates. This is a comprehensive guide to Roman antiquities that were discovered and preserved in Bath. Contents include an introduction of the history of Bath which gives information behind the high amount of archaeological remnants found there as well as chapters on various Roman antiquities. These include a 'monumental stone' an altar and a sculpture from the fourth century. Written by Richard Warner 1763-1857 an English clergyman antiquarian and writer of countless topographical books in and around Bath. This work was published by order of the Mayor of Bath and printed by W. Meyler. With an institutional bookplate to the front pastedown stating that the book was bequest to the Bath Public Reference Library by Lieut. Col Egbert Lewis in 1934.Collated complete. Bound in half morocco on marbled boards. Externally generally smart. Rubbing to the extremities and to the spine as well as along the joints. Marks and discolouration to leather as well as marbled boards. Institutional bookplate to front pastedown. Ink inscription to verso of front endpaper with blind stamp to title page. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with light age-toning and light spotting particularly to the first and last few pages. Offsetting from plates to reverse side of pages.
