110415The Wood Clarke Press 1915. First Edition. Leather. 33 plus 6 pages of illustrations of the sight installed on various rifles and one page and an illustration devoted to hunting. Warner and noted gunsmith Adolph O. Niedner patented this new sight design for allied rifles during the early years of the First World War. Niedner made 400 sights and Warner set out to promote it issuing a 'limited edition. privately printed and bound confidential discourse about warfare and the need for his sight. It included testimonials excerpts from battlefield observations and illustrations of the Warner sight installed on US and foreign rifles'--Brophy The Springfield 1903 Rifles p. 482-483. According to the Handbook of Ordinance Data Nov. 15 1918 the US Army acquired 400 of the sights but it did not come into wide use. There were two issues of this publication one for the 1903 Springfield rifle and this much rarer Canadian edition--which has fewer pages but substantially similar content. No holdings of this edition are recorded in the WorldCat library database nor in the Library and Archives Canada. First edition first printing. Number 55 of an unknown number of 'confidential' copies. Bound in suede wrappers with a paper cover label; suede flaking a bit at the spine and spotted on the edges but generally very good. He worked with the Design Research Unit London later the Festival of Britain. During the 1939-45 War he worked as a camouflage artist and later as an official war artist.
