1980656j1259British Columbia: Self-Published. Good. 1980. Collector's Edition. Paperback. 4172543707 . Presents the local history of the twin British Columbia towns of Michel-Natal. "I lived through the purchase of Michel Colleries in the East Kootenay by Edgar Kaiser 1968-72 with both federal and provincial governments okaying the complete demise of Michel-Natal displacing 1200 residents so that Kaiser would not have to adhere to pollution standards. Born and raised in a town we loved we left for Kelowna with $4000 compensation as our homes burned. Kaiser raped the hills of the Elk Valley for its coal leaving behind sludge-filled tailings ponds to pollute the once-pristine rivers." - Author in a letter to the Kelowna Daily Courier in 2012. 198 pages. "Once in a while a book is published about the Pacific Northwest's past that is so remarkable for its insights and honest portrayal of events that it deserves special attention. This book by Bus Griffiths an author whose own life story is no less fascinating than the subject of which he writes is such a book. A picture story a historical fiction in comic book form recalling life in the B.C. woods as it happened a generation ago. Probing deeper the reader soon realizes he/she is seeing a fully comprehensive account of day-to-day logging operations as would have occured in hundreds of camps located along the coast of British Columbia . Logging has had a sociology of its own and for the careful reader it is fairly revealed in this book." - Daniel T. Gallacher Curator of Modern History Provincial Museum of British Columbia. Higgins 1834-1917 was Speaker of the British Columbia Legislature. "I have adhered as closely as possible to descriptions of the peculiarities of speech and mode of life of the men and women who peopled the Pacific Coast forty or fifty years ago. The stories of the occult which comprise several chapters are left to the judgement of wiser heads than mine. I have seen much that puzzled and mystified me and I am still seeking light thus far with indifferent success. The reminiscent stories are all founded upon actual occurrences and in the years to come may be found of value to the student of early events in California and the British Pacific. I have aimed to write history so far as it came under my own observation in an entertaining manner." - Preface. Unmarked with average wear. Binding intact. Front hinge starting.
