This popular weekly magazine is filled with articles letters and cartoons relating to life in the early 20th century including several references to women's suffrage advocates. Page 276 shows a cartoon of a militant British suffrage advocate. A "Blasted Britisher" says "My Word! We men are not all angels you know." The suffragette with a bomb hidden behind her back replies that they soon will be. An image titled "The Call of the Wild" p. 280 shows a woman walking away from a new husband to join a parade of suffrage advocates and page 282 shows "The Militant's Husband: How Restful the Water Looks" with a domineering woman about to push her husband off of a pier. Some wear to binding and expected toning but crisp pages. Good condition. An interesting piece of history capturing some of the different popular ideas and opinions about women's rights. unknown books

These images are accompanied by the initial six paragraphs of the article relating "one of the most daring and heroic adventures since the war commenced" in which Smalls a small crew and their family members escaped slavery in Charleston by commandeering the Confederate gun-boat and running it the safety of USS Wabash a US Navy steam ship at Port Royal SC. At the bottom of the sheet is an image titled "Feeding the Negro Children Under Charge of the Military Authorities at Hilton Head South Carolina". <br><br>Harper's Weekly was a New York-based illustrated political magazine published from 1857 until 1916. The magazine featured foreign and domestic news fiction essays on many subjects and humor.
