Relief Society Magazine including the Relief Society Bulletin of 1914 was the official publication of the Relief Society of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints LDS Church from 1915 to 1970. It succeeded the earlier and privately owned Woman's Exponent which was begun in 1872. The magazine was an important publishing outlet for Utah women and was run by women editors. The founding editor Susa Young Gates edited the magazine from 1915 to 1922. The December 1970 issue of the Relief Society Magazine was its last. The LDS Church discontinued the magazine as part of the implementation of the Priesthood Correlation Program. Thus the magazine and several others within the church was replaced by the Ensign. Susa Young Gates March 18 1856 – May 27 1933 was a writer periodical editor and women's rights advocate in Utah. In 1889 Gates founded the Young Woman's Journal a periodical targeted to adolescent Latter-day Saint females. In 1897 the journal was adopted by the Young Ladies' Mutual Improvement Association YLMIA. In 1915 Gates founded Relief Society Magazine a periodical targeted at members of the Relief Society. The magazine became the official publication of the church's Relief Society and Gates edited it until 1922. Gates wrote several books including a biography of her father two novels a history of women in the LDS Church and a 1911 history of the YLMIA.

Susa Young Gates 1895
In 1915 Gates founded Relief Society Magazine a periodical targeted at members of the Relief Society.
