The latter is in Gorey-esque black-and-white punctuated with "holiday" colors. Published in a regular print run as a softcover original only. There is no ISBN. The Magazine Issue is now rare. Pictorial softcovers with original glassine over-flaps intact as issued. Cover Art by Edward Gorey. Poems by John Updike presented as the "Shouts & Murmurs" last page. It is a full-fledged 136-page Issue that comes with journalism pieces literary essays and critical reviews as usual. Printed on pristine-white thick coated stock paper in New York to the highest standards. American magazines when they were still being printed regularly almost always surpassed books in terms of production values. Without DJ as issued. Presents in its very first appearance John Updike's "The Twelve Terrors of Christmas". Twelve poems introduced by Edward Gorey's magazine cover art. The two great artists subsequently completed their collaboration with a full-fledged book of the poems interspersed with many more of Gorey's original drawings. Published in a now-very-rare Limited Edition the following year in 1993 and in a now-rare First Edition in 1994. This Issue is arguably the true first. The characteristically eerie and irresistibly magical Gorey style brilliantly matches the darkly comic look at the holidays by Updike.
