Near Fine. .and to those who were selling the doves He said "Take these things away; stop making My Father's house a place of business." - John 2:16

Advertising / Promotional gift copy of the Holy Bible used by the Oil Chemical & Atomic Workers International Labor Union in the mid-1970's! This particular copy is stamped "Local 8-438" New Brunswick NJ. While the Union itself faced immense challenges in the 1970's and 1980's it managed to survive by merging with the United Paperworkers International Union. Prior to the merger in the late 1990's the Oil Chemical & Atomic Workers Union was a powerful unit that largely influenced The Occupational Safety and Health Act and Mining Enforcement and Safety Act both passed in 1970. These regulations resulted in huge improvements to workplace safety in America. Another lasting contribution to Atomic workers in particular was the first federal government acknowledgement that nuclear weapons production during the Cold War likely caused the illness and death of thousands of atomic mining refining and production workers. The government later agreed to seek legislation to compensate workers and their survivors for medical care and lost wages.

This cedar boxed "New American Bible" was apparently used as a promotional tool by the now defunct Atomic Workers union. Bibles such as this were gifted by Union leaders as part of negotiation processes as well as at funerals as we understand it.
