1970752481970. A binder of materials produced by the Awareness Research Foundation an alternative religious group founded in 1962 at a Thanksgiving dinner in Bellevue Washington. A psychologist placed under hypnosis cured his own cancer and through subsequent hypnotic trances revealed his expanding knowledge was a result of "cosmic awareness".<br /> <br /> The binder contains more than 150 pages of material organized within sections with a table of contents. The material includes an introduction to Awareness: "awareness in each individual which draws upon that portion of himself which is his inner superconscious power." Among the other material in the binder are a membership application an introduction to spiritual healing excerpts from readings in Olympia Washington and Calgary Alberta Canada etc.<br /> <br /> The executive director of the Foundation was Helen I. Hoag who claimed to have been aboard a spaceship and lived multiple past lives. "I'm Mara Menara professionally" Hoag wrote in the opening of her book My Lives on Atlantis a copy of which is laid into the binder. "My name in this life is Helen I. Hoag. Would you like to know some of my other names"<br /> <br /> Along with Hoag's book a 1971 letter is laid into the binder recounting Hoag's summer tour which took her to Oklahoma Texas New Mexico Arizona Utah and Colorado. "One of our contacts had already been taken to 'the other side'. We met some wonderful people evaluated several organizations ran several dozen lives for a number of persons in a great many cities and towns. We also saw from a distance some eight or nine space ships and were able to distinguish them from stars by their movement and lights. One of these was the Star Ship of our new Universe Lord which seems to stay over the vicinity of Minturn Colorado near Vail."<br /> <br /> It appears the organization moved from Washington to North Miami and during the summer months was based in Topeka Kansas. The materials are housed in a green stiff paper binder with metal clasps. unknown

18883032Guanabacoa 1888. About very good. Broadside approximately 12 x 17 inches. Previously folded. Contemporary manuscript rubric and small ink stamp. small patch of ink burn causing separation along rubric line. A few tiny wormholes slightly affecting text. Light tanning minor foxing. An otherwise unrecorded 19th-century Cuban broadside decree announcing the rules for celebrations in Guanabacoa during "las fiestas de su Patrona" taking place on August 14 & 15 1888. The patron saint of Guanabacoa then a small town just outside Havana and now an outlying district of the city is Our Lady of the Assumption and August 15 is the Feast of the Assumption. This broadside prints eight articles the first of which allow games and "diversiones públicas" but prohibit games of chance and gambling of any kind and authorize the erection of food and drink stalls in public places that do not impede public traffic. Permission must be obtained from the municipal magistrates for balls and parties in private houses; shooting guns rockets and fireworks is still strictly forbidden but the lighting of torches is allowed during the saint's procession. Other rules regulate vehicular traffic cafés and restaurants horse races ball games and theatrical performances. A very interesting document of municipal regulation for popular religious events in Cuba during the late-19th century. unknown

This glass slide photo archive visually captures the expansion of the Lutheran Mission Churches largely within the Missouri Synod which underwent rapid Americanization and expansion during the 1920’s and early 1930’s in Chicago the nearby suburbs and across Northern Illinois. With a focus on establishing Sunday Schools shifting liturgy from German to English language and appealing to immigrant communities for growth these glass plate lantern slides appear to have been designed as a presentation for growing Lutheran Mission Churches as they spread through up-and-coming suburban neighborhoods in and around Chicago mostly within a 50 mile-or-so boundary line to downtown Chicago. Stately churches church interiors Sunday School interiors students pastors as well as church buses and surrounding areas are also depicted within the slides. Heavily influenced by Dwight L. Moody’s targeted Sunday School movement upon the inner city working poor during the 19th-Century the Evangelical Lutheran Mission Churches as depicted in the two maps inside the collection -- with one hand-coloured with red dots corresponding to the slides -- there was a decided interest to attract those migrating into the Chicago area including Japanese-Americans as depicted in slide No. 2 standing next to the sign for “Our Saviour’s Evangelical Lutheran Church†in Addison Heights Chicago.Identified churches and Sunday schools include those for Addison Heights Messiah School Archer Heights Congregation in Chicago Barrington congregation & church building Broadview & Maywood along Roosevelt about 12 miles west of downtown Chicago & Lake Michigan the Elizabeth parsonage which was the furthest West church in the North Illinois District nearly on the Iowa State line. Others include parishes in Elmwood Park Gage Park Irvingwood East Joliet Midlothian Naperville East Rockford Dixon Milford Geneva and the St. Charles Borromeo Church originally at the NW corner of 12th now Roosevelt and Cypress now Hoyne Ave. in the West Side neighborhood. Still more include Pastor Kroeger’s Winslow church; Pastor Kuehnert’s Cary Church Pastor Burgdorf’s Bethany Church along with two lantern slides of Pastor Brauer’s parish -- the Illinois State Women’s Prison and the State Penitentiary at Joliet. Surviving multimedia presentation archives such as this one are quite scarce and seldom feature the enhanced detail offered by the typescript list with this archive.
