brossura L'autore analizza la formula del rito della messa detta "apologia", che è presente pressoché sempre e in tutti i messali (pur in molteplici differenziazioni), a partire dall'epoca della comparsa di questo libro liturgico riservato alla celebrazione dell'eucaristia. L'analisi prende anzitutto in esame il termine "apologia", presente già nei manoscritti per poi proporre una storia della nascita e dell'evoluzione delle "apologie" in Oriente e in Occidente. L'ambito della ricerca comprende i testi che vanno dalle testimonianze più antiche, dai rituali (ordines) del VII secolo al messale di Paolo VI (riformato a seguito del Concilio Vaticano II), passando da quello di tridentino. Una parte preponderante dell'analisi è dedicata alle apologie del messale di Paolo VI, in vista di una rivalutazione di tali preghiere presenti ancora, anche se in minima parte, nel messale attuale. Un corpo di appendici con gran parte dei testi analizzati dall'autore, insieme a degli utili indici correda il testo.

This is a prayer codex of some 90 pages which was composed in Palestine prior to the 10th century CE. It was preserved in the Cairo Genizah and was later spread among various libraries in Europe and North America. The codex was recollected and reconstructed by Joseph Yahalom, who along with Edna Engel has added a preface and an index to the facsimile. The codex features a very elegant script and various prayers and customs that did not survive in later prayer books. 345x240mm. 42+96 pages. Grey cloth Hardcover with illustrated dust-jacket. Gilt lettering on spine. Jacket wavy and slightly stained. Jacket edges slightly worn.
