The location of the publication-Wittenberg-is significant being associated with Martin Luther and considered the birthplace of the Protestant Reformation. Although "Meditopia" has no publisher listed a copy of the book is in the University of Warsaw with a contemporary hand-written publisher's name; Johann Rhau-Grunenberg 1508-1825 noted for publishing Martin Luther's earliest works including the Indulgences of 1517. In dieser bedeutsamen Schrift zur Abendmahlslehre verkündet Luther das Heilsgut, dem die Gläubigen im Abendmahl teilhaftig werden. Es habe dreierlei Form: Das Zeichen (Brot und Wein), die Bedeutung (Gemeinschaft der Heiligen) und den Glauben. Er fordert, daß diese Sakramente nicht nur den Priestern, sondern allen Gläubigen zustehen. - Im Anhang stellt sich Luther der Unsitte der Bruderschaften entgegen, die sich, wie etwa einzelne Handwerkszünfte, unter das Patronat eines Heiligen stellen, aber meist unter diesem Deckmantel kein frommes, sondern ein sehr ausschweifendes Leben führen. - Der Titelholzschnitt zeigt eine prächtige Monstranz. - In guter Gesamterhaltung.

Italiens Reaktion auf die Thesen Martin Luthers - Zweite Ausgabe der nur zweimal gedruckten, überaus seltenen Schrift des Dominikanerpaters Tommaso Radini Tedeschi da Piacenza (1488-1527), der sich hier mit den Thesen und reformatorischen Ansätzen Martin Luthers auseinandersetzt, "nunc vero secundo Lipsiae apud Melchiorem Lottherum seniorem est excusa. Anno M.D.XX. Mense Octobris" (Kolophon). Die erste Ausgabe war im katholischen Köln im selben Jahre 1520 erschienen (VD16 R 84).Tommaso Radini Tedesci stammt aus Piacenza, trat in den Konvent von S. Eustorgio in Mailand ein und erlangte Berühmtheit ebenso als Theologe wie als Dichter mit seinem Hauptwerk der ?Calipsichia?. ?Tommaso Radino, dell?ordine de? predicatori, buono teologo, ma miglior oratore e poeta, che fece la ?Calipsichia? col ?Siderale Abisso?. Mancò in Roma nel tempo dell?infelice captura di essa dall?essercito di Carlo V imperatore nel 1527?. In seiner vorliegenden Schrift wird Luther vorgeworfen, mit seiner Neuerungsbewegung als Ketzer den Ruf der deutschen Fürsten wie der deutschen Völker verunglimpft zu haben (?Nationis gloriam violantem oratio?). Das Werk ist insofern von Bedeutung, da es nicht in erster Linie die Meinung der Päpste selbst, sondern eines humanistisch gebildeten Italieners wiedergibt ? und damit zu einer höchst interessanten Schilderung Deutschlands aus der südlichen Sicht Norditaliens wird. Die hübsche Titelvignette zeigt oben zwei Füllhörner, aus denen exotische Vögel herausfliegen. Sie stoßen in üppigem Rankenwerk auf volatile Monster, die sich aus den Blättern zu formieren scheinen. Unten sind um einen Vasenkelch zwei drachenähnliche Wesen dargestellt, deren Schwänze an den Flanken aufragen und sich wiederum zu wilden Blattbordüren aufwachsen, in denen anthropomorphe Gestalten, verzerrte Gesichter und Schemen erscheinen.Interessant ist auch die Typographie, die auf dem Titelblatt eine gotisch Type zeigt - ganz in der Tradition der Reformationsdrucke (und auch im selben Format). Im Block ist dann plötzlich konsequent eine herrliche, an italienischen Typen orientierte Antiqua-Type verwendet. Rechts etwas knapp beschnitten, aber ohne Titelbordürenverlust, sonst - auch rechts - sehr breitrandig, mit zeitgenössischer Rubrikation, vor allem Unterstreichungen in Rot, Sepia und wenigen Anmerkungen von alter Hand. Folio measuring approx. 8 1/2 by 12 1/2 inches x 3 1/4 inches. 16th century blind-stamped pigskin over wooden boards. Minor rubbing fading and soiling; lacks the clasps. Pages show natural browning and aging of paper. Old ink notations on endpapers a few small ownership signatures on title page dated 1681 and 1875.m The first text page is damaged as it appears the top and upper right margins were clipped off - the text i8s unaffected. Overall in good condition particularly for a book over 450 years old! EARLY EDITION OF AN IMPORTANT WORK OF THE PROTESTANT REFORMATION. The text consists of notes made by Luther's dinner companions from 1531-1566 and conatyin his views on theological issues Biblical interpretation and the Christian life. These sermons originated in lectures delivered in the 1530s and reflect Luther's effort to identify references to Christ and the Trinity within Genesis. The printer Schwenck operated in the center of early Lutheran print culture. The folio-sized volume remains in its original tooled vellum binding measuring 12.75 by 8.75 inches with a 4.5-inch spine. Else good. <br /> German religious reformer and founder of the Lutheranism movement Martin Luther grew increasingly hostile towards the Jews following their refusal to accept his religious reformations. <br /><br /> In the present work the most virulent of Luther's anti-Semitic attacks he subjects the Jews to a torrent of vile abuse. His practical suggestions range from forced labor to outright banishment: "First their synagogues should be set on fire and what ever does not burn up should be covered over with dirt so that no one may ever be ale to see a cinder or stone of it.
