18402873Here are two bound volumes 48 issues of an antique agriculture/farming publication "THE CULTIVATOR - A Consolidation of Buel's Cultivator and Genesee Farmer Designed to Improve the Soil and the Mind and to Elevate the Character and Standing of the Cultivators of the American Soil" edited by Willis Gaylord and Luther Tucker. The volumes contain a complete run of 48 issues from January 1840 through December 1843. The issues are illustrated some illustrations have color tints; there is at least one full-page engraved plate in volume IX & X. Each volume contains an alphabetized list of Contents.<br /><br />Jesse Buel was an American newspaper publisher politician and agricultural reformer. "The Cultivator" was one of the most popular of the many agricultural journals being published for American farmers during the period.<br /><br /> Bound Volumes VII & VIII: 24 issues total 12 issues for 1840 Jan-Dec; 12 issues for 1841 Jan-Dec<br /> Bound Volumes IX & X: 24 issues total 12 issues for 1842 Jan-Dec; 12 issues for 1843 Jan-Dec<br /><br />Here are a just few examples of the contents: Cows best for the dairy; Breeding cattle and sheep; Garden culture of carrots; Apple gathering for Winter; Preparation of bees-wax; Beer and Beer shops of England; Different kinds of bacon; Plowing in the Fall; Experiments with different kinds of manures; How to pickle cucumbers; Digging and preserving potatoes; To make soap; A remedy for sore eyes; Amount of food necessary for horses; Indian corn; Proper soil and location for a garden; Method of making coffee; Work for October; Model farms of France; The influence of the Moon; Manufacture of maple sugar; To preserve tomatoes; Experiment in fatting swine; Wheat in New England; Culture of strawberries; How to build a stone wall; Extirpation of weeds; How to make vinegar.<br /><br />Condition:<br />Volume VII & VIII: Wear at the corner tips; the top of the spine has a dark stain and a few tiny holes. Tight binding with no loose pages; crack at the front hinge between the title page and 1st contents page despite the crack the front cover is firmly attached and is not shaky. Nice pages with scattered foxing and an occasional small stain. Volume IX & X: wear to the corner tips; the left edge of the spine has split 1/3 of the way down from the top and the right edge has split 2" down from the top. Wear along the outer board edges. Tight binding with no loose pages; both covers are firmly attached. Light foxing to the pages. Both volumes have a name written in pen on the front end paper.one is dated 1842 and "$2.75" is written in pen at the upper-outer corner. Overall the volumes are in very good condition.
