Corners are bumped and cracked and slight roll to spine. Binding is sound. Numerous ink drawings and other annotations/scrawlings to endpapers and first five leaves including title page. Half title shows remnants of tape repair. Marginalia and underlining in pen found intermittently throughout the text though whether these are in Duncan-Jones' hand we are unsure. De Blonay was the daughter of a notable Savoyard family--her father Claude de Blonay was the co-Lord of Saint Paul and an associate of Saint Francis de Sales uncle of the author of this biography Charles Auguste. Marie de Blonay's career began inauspiciously--her entry into the Order of the Visitation recently founded by Francis de Sales was delayed by the brutal murder of her brother who was ambushed and stabbed to death by the son of a rival family. The tragedy occurred while his father was abroad and the body was brought instead to his sister Marie. <br /> <br /> Marie did eventually enter the rapidly expanding Order of the Visitation where she first worked as a nurse before being named Superieure of the Monastere de Lyon.<br /> <br /> OCLC locates two copies in North America as of April 2025 at Johns Hopkins and BYU.
