ESTC 11371 and preceded by the Book of Common Prayer 1704 edition ESTC t81273 . Bound at the end is: The Whole Book of Psalms Collected into Engish Metre ESTC T195264. A very nice copy published by Charles Bill who has included the Whole Book of Psalms with the title page notation: "laying aside all ungodly songs and ballads which tend to the nourishing of vice and corrupting of youth". From the late 16th century on those with a Puritan orientation had the Psalms in metre using the words of Thomas Sternhold d. 154- and John Hopkins d. 154-. This edition of the Psalms usually reflected a careful attention to avoiding some of the allusions to lust or frivolity to have full attention to the worship of God. A very nice copy bound in black morocco engraved panel design with owner' name Margaret Roe on both front and rear boards in gilt on the first title page the book is further gifted to one of her children Francis spine fully gilt decorated marbled endpapers corners rounded all edges gilt but mostly faded a couple of tiny chips to foot smal piece torn away at a8 marginal only and another pice torn away on B1 marginal but just abscuring a bit of the side notes hinges somewhat weakened but quite sturdy the last two endpapers with tears at gutter. Der hintere Holzdeckel mittig gebrochen, durch alte Bänder, wie bei der `Buchbindung` jedoch fest. Das Pergament an den Rändern deutlich nachgedunkelt und/oder wellig; eventuell Spuren eines Feuers. Wikipediaauszug: "Das Amharische (Eigenbezeichnung amar....]) ist eine äthiosemitische Sprache, die im nördlichen Zentraläthiopien als Muttersprache von den Amharen gesprochen wird. Daneben ist sie die bedeutendste Verkehrssprache Äthiopiens und wird in allen Städten des Landes gesprochen. Sie ist laut Volkszählung von 2007 mit 19,87 Mio. Sprechern (26,89 % der Gesamtbevölkerung[3]) nach dem Oromo die äthiopische Sprache mit der zweitgrößten Zahl an Muttersprachlern. Außerdem wird sie von sehr vielen Einwohnern Äthiopiens als Zweitsprache gesprochen. Amharisch wird mit der äthiopischen Schrift (Ge`ez) geschrieben. Amharisch ist die offizielle Arbeits- und Amtssprache auf der Ebene der Zentralregierung und Arbeitssprache in fünf Bundesstaaten Äthiopiens. Amharisch wird auch in Eritrea von in Äthiopien aufgewachsenen Eritreern und älteren Menschen, welche die äthiopische Herrschaft erlebt haben, gesprochen.
