First printing with first printing dust jacket octavo size 272 pp. The thirty-third and last of the "canonical" books in the fabulously popular "Oz" series the nineteenth written by Ruth Plumly Thompson. It was decided to include the phrase "The Wizard of Oz" in the title to coincide with the release the same year of the MGM film starring Judy Garland. In fact it seems the book was written with the film in mind as the story focuses on the characters who appeared in the first book. This a lovely copy a wonderful way to complete a set for any Oz collector.

___DESCRIPTION: Bound in full tan cloth black lettering and designs to the backstrip full-colour pastedown on the front board black and white illustrated endpapers 16-page gatherings replete with black and white illustrations issued without colour plates; octavo size 9.25" by 7" 272 pages. Memorable for her run-in with the Marx Brothers in 1933's DUCK SOUP Raquel Torres had a Hollywood film career for 5 years which encompassed the very end of the silent era and early talkies between 1928 and 1933. Born in Mexico she had the distinction of appearing in MGM's first Synchronized sound film WHITE SHADOWS OF THE SOUTH SEAS. She soon appeared in the Academy Award-winning first version of THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY and continued in a variety of genres including Westerns South Sea sex epics comedies and of course DUCK SOUP. When she married a business tycoon in 1935 she stopped making films and after he passed she was married to actor Jon Hall for awhile. She remained in Los Angeles until her death in 1987 at 78-years-old. While at MGM in 1928 she had her portrait done by MGM's most prestigious photographer Ruth Harriet Louise. Raquel is likely in costume for THE BRIDGE OF SAN LUIS REY. There is a blind stamp at the bottom right edge as well as Ruth Harriet Louise ink stamp on verso and the ""Raquel Torres Metro Goldwyn Mayer"" ink stamp as well. There are two light inter creases one at the center of her chest and a diagonal one at the center of her face. Neither show unless held up to the light NEAR FINE. unknown books
