Prior owner's inscription to the rear board 'G Greasby 1874'. Bookplate to the front pastedown Thomas Brigham. Small loss to the tissue guard. From the library of Allen and Beryl Freer. The Freers were avid art collectors and acquired quite the selection over the twentieth century of works mostly bought from the artists. Allen organised many exhibitions of artists he admired and published several works on art. Isaac Hawkins Browne was an English politician and poet. He imitated many contemporary poets such as Jonathan Swift and Alexander Pope. In a full calf binding. Externally smart. Cracks to the front and rear joint. Small loss to the head and tail of spine as well as to the extremities. Front hinge is strained but firm. Internally firmly bound. Pages are bright. Minor offsetting to the title page. Just the odd spots to pages. Very Good J Nourse hardcover
