Denoted the "Third American Edition" of the work first published in the UK in 1725. More properly it just might be termed the third Exeter edition following those of 1793 and 1801. On the verso of the title appears a typographic frame made up of ornaments and the legend "The Property Of." In this copy the original owner has inserted a small label with his name in ink manuscript. His larger printed bookplate appears on the pastedown. There is another variant imprint encountered on this printing that includes Newburyport distributors. SHAW & SHOEMAKER 11817. OCLC: 950914916. This is a small format book approx. 4" x 2.5" x 1". Full leather binding. This book is in Very Good- condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The leather covers have edge wear rubbing bumping and small edge nicks / tears. There are gilt decorations to the outside edges of both front and rear covers and gilt lettering and rules to the spine. The text pages are generally clean though there are spots of foxing throughout and some beginning general toning. The front endpaper has a previous owner's inked name Charlotte Willard and a light / faded sketch of a fish. "Isaac Watts 17 July 1674 25 November 1748 was an English Congregational minister hymn writer theologian and logician. He was a prolific and popular hymn writer and is credited with some 750 hymns.
