028702UK. First Edition . Paper. Good. 48mo - over 3 - 4" tall. An Original Hand Written and Signed Letter by Admiral Sir Isaac Coffin. Undated. A handwritten and signed letter by the British naval officer Isaac Coffin. 'Dear Sir John I have sent you the paper containing Mr Carrington's apology which please to insert in your valuable gazette for the information of my naval friends. When I got his scurrilous attack a very temperate letter was sent him explaining how mistaken he was in asserting that when employed eat the bread of idleness; still he kept aloof when my solicitor Mr Eastlake told him he might expect an action for libel if he did not retract his very abusive language. Such as is the apology it is better perhaps to accept than follow it up by a lawsuit.
