On the author from a public domain online encyclopedia:
Abraham Isaac Kook 1864 - 1935 was the first Ashkenazi chief rabbi of the British Mandate for Palestine the founder of the now Religious Zionist "Yeshiva Merkaz HaRav" and a renowned Torah scholar. He was a master of Halakha in the strictest sense while at the same time possessing an unusual openness to new ideas especially in regards to the settling of Eretz Yisrael. This drew many religious and non-religious people to him but also led to widespread misunderstanding of his ideas. He wrote prolifically on both Halakha and Jewish thought and his books and personality continued to influence many even after his death in Jerusalem in 1935. Mossad Ha-Rav Kook hardcover
2023138603Ann Arbor MI: The Legacy Press 2023. hardcover sewn dust jacket. 10 x 7 in. hardcover sewn dust jacket. 224 pages. Foreword by Sidney E. Berger
92 full-color images. When one sees a book covered in a particular paper the question often arises: Who made that paper This book helps us recognize certain kinds of marbled-paper decoration created by Edward Webster Morris 1842-1919 an Oxford printer. Morris was adept at the art of marbling and as Isaac shows his papers were considered attractive by knowledgeable critics contemporary and more recent and his work was taken up by several well-known bookbinders at the time. One point worth repeating is that often scholarship about a phenomenon is published without any context. What Isaac has done in this book is to put Morris' papers into the broader contexts of the publishing and the bookbinding worlds. Only by doing this could he interpret the evidence before him with some sense of authority and reliability. Why would Morris produce what he did The answer lies in the publishing industry and the people inhabiting it - the people who would have used Morris' papers and those who would have promoted his work. Isaac's research here is wide ranging and deep and as a result the volume is a substantial contribution to the world of decorated-paper scholarship. - Sidney E. Glasgow born Robert Foulis 1707-1776 was a Scottish printer whose work had considerable influence on the printers and publishers of his time. Initially apprenticing as a master barber he was encouraged to take up the trade of printing and bookselling at the suggestion of his friend Francis Hutcheson of the University of Glasgow. Beginning in 1741 Foulis engaged in the selling of books in Glasgow and it was very shortly thereafter in 1742 that he set up his own press. He was appointed printer to the University of Glasgow in 1743 and in the same year produced the first Greek book printed in Glasgow the Peri herm neias in both Greek and Latin of the pseudo-Demetrius Phalereus. "Five years later he went into partnership with his brother Andrew and by 1775 had produced more than 500 separate editions including an edition of Homer 4 vol. folio 175658 Callimachus small quarto 1755 Thomas Grays Poems quarto 1768 Herodotus Thucydides and Xenophon with Latin translations and one of the first Scottish editions of Shakespeare. The Foulises best works were distinguished by their excellent layout legibility and accuracy." EB April 2019. Some of the credit for their achievement is attributable to the renowned type-maker and punch-cutter Alexander Wilson from whom they purchased their types. Robert Foulis died on 2 June 1776 in Edinburgh.

In Aedibus Academicis Excudebat Robertus Foulis Academiae Typographus. hardcover

He was sentenced to death at age 15 for anti-Tsarist remarks and managed to escape to Rome thanks to his friendship with Maxim Gorky and his mother selling off her jewelry; he studied at the academy in Rome and then emigrated to New York in 1929 sponsored by his cousin Joseph Hirschhorn. During the Depression he worked as an artist for the WPA. He was a prolific artist well represented in exhibits and in museum collections. Self Published unknown
