This is a small format book approx. 4" x 2.5" x 1". Full leather binding. This book is in Very Good- condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The leather covers have edge wear rubbing bumping and small edge nicks / tears. There are gilt decorations to the outside edges of both front and rear covers and gilt lettering and rules to the spine. The text pages are generally clean though there are spots of foxing throughout and some beginning general toning. The front endpaper has a previous owner's inked name Charlotte Willard and a light / faded sketch of a fish. "Isaac Watts 17 July 1674 25 November 1748 was an English Congregational minister hymn writer theologian and logician. He was a prolific and popular hymn writer and is credited with some 750 hymns. His works include "When I Survey the Wondrous Cross" "Joy to the World" and "Our God Our Help in Ages Past". He is recognised as the "Godfather of English Hymnody"; many of his hymns remain in use today and have been translated into numerous languages. " from Wikipedia ""Barlow was invited by 'the General Association of Connecticut to revise Dr. Isaac Watts's version of the Psalms in order to remove the allusions to Great Britain and the kind and so to make them more adaptable to singing in the United States.' Small ink inscription from a previous owner on the front paste down of Volume 1. Spotting and browning throughout each volumes not affecting any text. The pages of all 3 volume are slightly wavy. A smartly bound three volume set of anecdotes relating authors quarrels throughout history written by Isaac D'Israeli. Complete in three volumes. This humorous and informative work looks at various author quarrels throughout history. Some of the authors included are Warbuton Pope Addison Bolinbroke D'Avenant Boyle Parker Hobbes and Camden. This work could be considered a continuation of 'Calamities of Authors'. Written by Isaac D'Israeli though his name isn't stated to the title pages. D'Israeli was a scholar and writer who was the father of the Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. He was brought up Jewish but split from the religion later on in his life. He begun his literary career at sixteen becoming a man of letters and being in correspondence with many influential writers of his times. His most popular work was 'Curiosities of Literature' though he also wrote several historical biographies and also published many poems. Handsomely bound in full calf. Externally very smart. Rubbing to the spines and extremities. A few scratches to the front boards of Volumes II and III. Internally front and rear hinges to Volume III are strained but remain firm. Internally pastedowns both front and rear and free-endpapers both front and rear have slight discolouration to the edges. Internally pages in all volumes are generally bright and clean with a few scattered spots more to the front and last pages. Very Good John Murray hardcover

This work was the first publication of the tireless western Indian missionary Isaac McCoy. McCoy suggests that all the area west of Missouri southwest of the Missouri River and north of the then boundary with Mexico at the Arkansas become an Indian territory. In the appendix McCoy gives his vision of the character and qualities of the proposed missions. "One of the earliest suggestions for a reservation on which to colonize and educate western Indians" - Howes.
