Canadian-born American geographer 1878-1950 President of John Hopkins University a member of the American delegation at the Dumbarton Oaks Conference at which the United Nations was founded. Both letters docketed and bearing the Society's stamp. Both good though lightly creased and on slightly discoloured paper; letter one with a spike-hole not affecting text and letter two with rust stains from a paperclip. LETTER ONE one page 12mo: having examined the requested copies of the Royal Society's journal Bowman as Director of the American Geographical Society finds that 'your publications will be of interest to us and it will therefore give us much pleasure to place your name on the exchange list of this Society as you propose.' LETTER TWO one page quarto: requests permision to 'reprint Colonel Sir Thomas Holdich's article on "Between the Indus and the Euphrates" . We would wish to use the greater part of it. Because we never make a charge on reprints of articles in our magazine the GEOGRAPHICAL REVIEW we can not offer you compensation for the article but full credit would naturally be given your Society.
