He is also known by his Hebrew acronym Shadal. During his literary career of more than fifty years Luzzatto wrote a great number of works and scholarly correspondences in Hebrew Italian German and French. Besides he contributed to most of the Hebrew and Jewish periodicals of his time. His correspondence with his contemporaries is both voluminous and instructive; there being hardly any subject in connection with Judaism on which he did not write. <br /> <br /> Published by his son Isaiah thirteen years after his death this work is an index of his correspondence preceded by a foreword and followed by previously unpublished correspondence.<br /> <br /> One of 300 unnumbered copies.<br /> <br /> Sporadic foxing throughout. A lawyer active in his hometown he collected his father's works to which he devoted several introductory publications. In a letter to the Italian Jewish periodical "L'Educatore Israelita" vol. XIX/1871: 22 Isaiah Luzzatto announced his intention to gather his father's massive correspondence including all personal letters and asked the readers to send him all available copies in their possession.
