Fascinating work that celibrates the history and glory of the French Marine and its equipages. Written and privately published in 1943 during the Nazi-occupation of France this book was not openly circulated at the time. However in 1944 the limited edition out of which this is one copy sold for 3000 Francs/copy. Magnificently illustrated with blue in-text idrawings throughout and 20 full-page aquarells protected by tissue guard. In French. Good- condition. Printed by subscription at 950 copies. Out of them 455 copies were printed "sur velin pur chiffon fililgrane Marais numerotes" printed on pure filigree chiffon vellum paper; numbered series. This copy is one of them.
